The Moon
by Chrisa Phillipidis, aged 12
What do you know about the Moon?
The Sun is a star. It's very bright because it's a big fire. The
Moon, and our Earth, aren't stars. Because the Moon isn't a
fire, it doesn't shine. We can only see it when the Sun shines
The Moon
on it.
The Moon is about 4.5 billion years old. That's 4,500,000,000
years! But people only went to the Moon less than 50 years
ago.
The first spaceship – with no people – landed on the Moon
in 1959. Ten years later, Neil Armstrong was the first person
to walk on the Moon. His spaceship, Apollo 11, took more
than 4 days to travel from the Earth to the Moon.
The Earth
The Moon is much smaller than the Earth. It goes round
from the Moon
the Earth every 27.3 days, or nearly once every month.
31 Chrisa says the ______ shines because it's a big fire.
A Moon
B Earth
C Sun
32 Chrisa ______ the name of the first spaceship to go to the Moon.

33 Neil Armstrong went to the Moon ______ .
A in 1959
B in 1969
C ten years ago
34 Neil Armstrong took about ______ days to get to the Moon.
