JOB DESCRIPTION: ELEMENTARY LIBRARY TEACHING PARTNER CAMPUS: DIRECT SUPERVISOR: STARTING DATE: Johannesburg Elementary School Librarian July 26, 2017 POSITION OVERVIEW The Library Teaching Partner works alongside the Librarian to support and enhance the learning program. He/she establishes an effective rapport with students and other staff members. The Library Teaching Partner works closely with the Librarian in most aspects of teaching and learning that take place in the library. He/she incorporates AISJ’s curriculum into the daily schedule, collaborates regularly with the other members of the team to plan integrated units and activities and works to promote the educational needs of students. The Library Teaching Partner should be familiar with all school procedures and have a basic knowledge of the full range of age groups (Pre-K – Grade 5) to ensure a cohesive approach is followed. As a Teaching Partner at AISJ you will have an opportunity to work with students from around the world. You will learn about research based practices in education, how to assess and use data to plan for instruction in order to meet the needs of each child. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS • An Elementary Education teaching degree • Previous experience working with young children • An excellent level of spoken and written English • Good communication and interpersonal skills • Enthusiastic, creative and committed to working with students • A flexible person who works well in a team situation • A willingness to learn new approaches and methods • An interest in children’s literature and best literacy practices • Ability to present academic oriented material in a classroom environment • Experience in working in schools and educational environments • An interest in and ability to utilize technology as necessary GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES • Assists in creating a learning environment where children can develop their full potential and experience growth • Assists with the general preparation and organization of supplies and materials • Assists students and teachers in location of print and non-print resources • • • • • • • • • • Checks books and materials in and out to students and teachers using the computerized circulation system Assists librarian with inventory procedures Establishes effective communication with parents and students as required eg. Emails, phone calls Works with students to support their needs on an individual and/or small group basis in the library setting Supervises students in the library environment Participates in curriculum and staff development opportunities as required Maintains a high level of professional competence through in-service education and professional growth activities Helps prepare library publications and materials under guidance of the librarian Assumes the role of the lead librarian in the librarian’s absence Other tasks as determined by the librarian or principal SCHOOL HOURS: CONTACT: 7:10 am to 3:30 pm Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and 7:10 am to 4:00 pm on Wednesdays A letter of application and current resume should be addressed to the Assistant Elementary Principal, Miss Lisa Thom and sent to [email protected]
