Visintainer helps the needy
As the families of Brunswick enjoyed their Thanksgiving dinners with loved
ones, there were nearly 50
families who did so because
of the generosity of the
Visintainer family of students, parents, and staff.
The 6th graders had
their annual Thanksgiving
meal drive under the guid-
ance of Mrs. Grebey and
Mrs. Shepherd.
The drive doesn’t just
collect turkeys, but all of
the fixings to provide an
entire Thanksgiving feast
including dessert.
Oh, the weather outside is frightful
There is a line from a holiday
song that goes, “the weather outside is frightful.” But you would not
know that based on the way some
of the middle school kids dress.
Although we have been spared
some poor weather like the blizzard we had last November, now is
a good time to remind students and
families about dressing for the
weather.
“It is an interesting phenomena,
the dress patterns of middle school
students. When it was 90 in August, we had students wearing
hoody sweatshirts to school and
now that the weather has turned to
freezing temps, we have students
who come to school wearing tee
shirts and shorts.” Mr. Sharosky,
the Principal, said.
“I know we have small lockers
here and some students do not
wish to wear a winter coat because
it is difficult to get books out of the
locker when a coat is jammed in
there” Sharosky said.
“But I am concerned that some
students don’t even wear a sweatshirt when it is literally freezing
outside.”
The students who attend breakfast are allowed into the building at
8 AM. The regular bell rings at
8:10 AM to let students into the
building. The students on the busses are not let off until about 8:10,
but students that walk or are
dropped off who get here early are
often standing in the parking lot
dressed inappropriately.
When the weather is especially
inclement (heavy rain, for example)
Mr. Sharosky will open the doors
and let the kids wait in the hall for
the bell to ring. If the temperature
is also below zero, he will do the
same thing for the students that are
not on the
busses, but
those are
really the
only two
examples
where students can
come into
the building
early.
“Teachers are not on duty until
8;00, so there is no supervision in
the halls unless the assistant principal or I provide it” Sharosky said.
“So parents need to be aware that
their students might have to stand
outside depending on what time
they are dropped off. The earlier
they are dropped off, the longer
they will have to stand outside. It
would only make sense for kids to
dress in layers with hats and gloves
when the temperatures dip into the
40’s and below.”

The teams started their season
with a scrimmage versus Strongsville Center on November 23rd.
“Center will give us a nice idea
of where we’re at because they are
typically the class of the conference” 8th grade coach, Mallory
Nixon, said.
The first regular-season games
originally scheduled for December
1st were moved to December 4th
because of the choir concert scheduled in the Visintainer gym.

Student chromebook distribution
The Brunswick City Schools
jumped into 21st century learning
with its announcement that
they were providing devices
for all of their students in
grades 6-12. The high school
students received their
Chromebooks in October.
The middle school students
will be receiving their
chromebooks in January.
“The tech department and
middle school administrators
will be passing out chromebooks to students on Saturday, January 16th from 9 AM
to 2:30 PM in the library at Brunswick High School.” Mr. Sharosky
said.
“A parent information packet
will be sent home on Friday, De-
cember 11th with more information.”
Students can report to the
Brunswick HS library at any time
between 9 am and 2:30 pm on January 16th to pick up their devices.
Each of the three middle schools
will have their own distribution
lines according to grade level. Students must pick up their own
chromebook. Parents and/or other
students cannot pick up chromebooks for other students.
“Students will have the signed
parent sheet and present that when
they pick up their computer. The
computers will be scanned in and
the students then take them home.
The whole process (other than
waiting in the line) shouldn’t take
more than 10 minutes” Sharosky
said.
Parents will have the opportunity to purchase a protective sleeve/
bag for the computer for approximately $10 dollars. The students
will keep the bag when they return
the computer.
Drama club prepares for second production
Rehearsals have begun for the
second annual Brunswick South
drama production, “Aladdin.” The
production is under the direction
of Visintainer and Edwards’ choir
director, Adam Albright.
“Last year, the club put on “The
Little Mermaid” and it truly was
spectacular” Mr. Sharosky said.
“Mr. Albright has really tried
to get as many students involved
as possible. Every child that
tried out for a part, Mr. Albright
found a part for them.” Sharosky said.
The actual performances will
be at the high school in the
Hayas PAC” Sharosky said.
“We cannot match the level of
technical sophistication that the
PAC brings with lighting, sound
and even the physical space.
Although I would rather host
the performances at Visintainer, it
is better for the cast and crew to
have the opportunity to perform
on the larger stage with the equip-
ment at the PAC.” Sharosky said.
Cast members include Alex
Hofferth & Paul Fleischer
(Aladdin), Angela Lods (Jasmine),
Kaitlyn Tumney (Genie), Tanner Garrey (Sultan), Maya
Ursem (Iago), Nathan Zadzilka
(Razoul), Sarah Hennigan &

From the Principal’s Desk….
The holiday season is upon us and
with the publication of this newsletter,
we are nearly at the end of the first
semester. Students will go on winter
break beginning December 17th. Friday, December 18th is a work day for
the staff and a non-school day for the
students. When students return from
winter break in January (on January
4th), they will begin the third quarter.
Students begin the second semester in
January.
The following students have been
selected by the staff as Students of the
Week for their contributions to Visintainer. The week of November 2nd
featured 8th grader, Jacob Hughes
Jakob Harris (7th), and Ellie Casper
(6th). The staff decided that each team
would recognize a student of the week
beginning the week of November 9th.
Eighth graders Christian Kovacek

The week of November 16th had
Lauryn Nitschke and Dillon Van

Evanoff, and Andrew Haber (7th)
and Kristine Crane and Kayla Ginley (8th) recognized.
Thanks to all of the families that
contributed to Viz’s annual Thanksgiving Feast sponsored by the 6th grade
Aviators team. Mrs. Grebey and the
team collected enough turkeys and
fixin’s to provide quite a few families
with a full Thanksgiving feast.
We have children who have not
paid their student fees. It is the district
policy that students cannot attend field
trips if they have not paid their fees.
We have both the 6th grade and the
8th grade taking field trips this month.
As I mentioned last month, we have
several students in the 8th grade who,
because of family circumstances, cannot afford to attend the 8th grade
Washington, DC trip in May 2016. If
there are any individuals or families
who would like to contribute to our
“Angel fund” to help pay for students
to attend the trip, please contact me.
Thank you for your consideration.
On behalf of the Visintainer staff,
we hope that all of the Visintainer families have a wonderful holiday season
and a Happy New Year!
