Board of Directors Meeting
August 4, 2014
President Charlie Davis, First VP Greg Pearson, Second VP Tom Leonard, Treasurer Frances Hillman and Directors Jack Bettin, Bob Malek and Community Manager John Bailey were present at the meeting. Director Don Blom participated through phone access to the meeting.
Statement on Pig Presence in Brandermill
President Davis informed the Board that the County has asked what the Board’s position is on the pet pig in Timber Ridge. The Board approved the following statement:
“The governing documents of the Brandermill Community Asso-
ciation are silent with respect to pigs and pig ownership. In our view, this is a proper issue for the county with respect to conditional-use permits because of the precedent-setting nature of any decision. What the County decides on this particular case will have an impact on all communities within the county. In addition to concerns expressed by County Animal Control, there is certainly the health issue attendant to animal waste. And, given the absence of any restrictions by our covenants, what would the decision be on a request for a cow, a horse, or another farm animal inside a traditional recognized residential VHWWLQJ"$FFRUGLQJO\ZHORRNWRWKH&KHVWHU¿HOG&RXQW\3ODQQLQJ
Commission and the Board of Supervisors for the broader perspec-
tive and decision.”
Student/Community Partnership Proposal
Community Manager Bailey read a memo from Involved Citizens and Parents requesting BCA participation as a part of the “Design Board Meeting continued on page 2.

more choices of toppings. It is located in the BP station at the corner of Old Hundred and Genito Roads. Fun Bus, a large bright green bus, travels to you. Owners Michael and Tiffany Maxwell says the bus is great for birthday parties and family gatherings. The bus provides great activites for two- to seven- year-old children.

requires community service credits for graduation. Program Repre-
sentative Carla Barnes says Brandermill is the perfect place to launch a cutting edge program that will serve as a model for the entire school system, and even other homeowner associations. Beginning with Clover Hill High School, and working with stu-
dent groups made up of current Brandermill residents who are rising Juniors and Seniors, the idea is to initiate a program that will provide volunteer and subsequent scholarship opportunities for students via the Brandermill Community Association’s volunteer leadership struc-
ture. Such opportunities might include volunteering for a committee or with staff that parallels a student’s interests, or through internships with Brandermill businesses. At the completion of the project(s) or terms of service, participating students would be eligible to apply for scholarships from the BCA.
It was suggested by Barnes that the BCA initially provide $2,000 annually to be awarded in $250 scholarships to Brandermill students who meet the criteria designated.
Member Voice
NRC President Joe Herbst and Second Vice Chair Kathy Cantrell spoke to the Board during member voice about the proposed committee policies and how they apply to the NRC. Later in the meeting, it was the Board’s decision to delay voting on the committee restructuring and to hold a work session on the matter, and to gain additional support from other committee members and residents prior to the September 8 Board meeting.
George Lawson asked the Board for their position regarding Home-
Based Businesses in Brandermill.

Self-help Program. All six properties are vacant. Because these prop-
erties are private properties, the Board has to authorize entry to the properties for work to be done. The Board unanimously approved the authorization with the cost of work on the six properties estimated at $2,700 including the cost of replacing three mailboxes. No cleanup work is being done in the rear of the properties.
During discussion by the Board, it was determined that 13 addi-
tional old brown mailbox units are on vacant properties. The Board voted to also have these mailboxes replaced with the new green posts and black boxes. Executive Session
Upon returning to Open Session President Davis read the following statement: “ With respect to in-home businesses in Brandermill and VSHFL¿FDOO\UHJDUGLQJ6HFWLRQ$RIWKH%UDQGHUPLOO&RYHQDQWVWKLV
Board will continue to monitor the situation and react as necessary.” Director Hillman made a motion to accept the statement and Director Blom seconded the motion with Directors Blom, Davis, Hillman and Malek voting for the statement, Directors Leonard and Pearson voting against and Director Bettin abstaining.
