contributions to CDSBC over a sustained period of time, having significant impact on
the College. This award may be for service that is provincial, national or international
in nature.
Dr. Robert (Bob) D. Coles
Bob is a past president
of the College, who
began volunteering in
organized dentistry
over 25 years ago. His
involvement began when
he joined a handful of
dentists who led the
movement to transition
the College into a purely
regulatory body and initiate the creation of the BC
Dental Association. Since then, he has served on
several committees, most notably serving as vicechair of the Regulatory Review Task Force which
brought changes to the way CDSBC regulates BC’s
dentists and CDAs.
His most professionally rewarding experience
came in 2015-16. In a year-long project, and at the
direction of the College, Bob mentored a colleague
one-on-one to help him improve his abilities and
meet the College’s professional standards.
Bob was a member of the CDSBC Board for 14
years. He began as a Member-at-Large in 1998.
He served as Vice-President from 2008-10 and
President from 2010-12.

his side. He spends his time crabbing and kayaking
from their home in White Rock, and golfing and
cursing in Palm Springs. His favourite time is spent
snowmobiling at the family cabin with their four
children and two grandchildren. Since retiring,
Bob has taken up blogging, made two submissions
to NASA, and has quietly started his latest hobby –
making moonshine!
In addition to his work at CDSBC, Bob represented
BC at the Canadian Regulatory Authorities
Federation (CDRAF) for five years, and was the first
BC dentist to sit on the executive committee of the
CDRAF, serving for three years.
He was first recognized by CDSBC for his work
with the Regulatory Review Task Force in 2004.
Bob’s ongoing commitment to the College has
also been recognized with an Award of Merit and
the Distinguished Service Award. Among his other
awards, he is extremely proud of his President’s
Award from the BC Dental Association.
