The students were thrilled to read about their partners. Above all they were
encouraged that their level of French is suitably high to communicate
effectively with native speakers. They will remain in good contact to
improve reading and writing skills.

“On se lave les mains”
Y9
students have embarked on a
different sort of creative writing
challenge producing a poster
advising young children to wash
their hands well entitled “On se lave
les mains”. The posters will be sent
to an orphange in Madagascar to
be distrubuted to schools in
surrounding villages.

Madagascar has not been directly

Leaders
Update
Y8-10 Sports Leaders have
shown their caring side by
spending Tuesday afternoons
with the residents of Ashlyns
Care Home. They have chatted
with the residents, who range in
age from 75 – 103, sharing
stories and playing board games
from Monopoly to Jenga.
Girls’ Football Programme
the campaign with preventative
methods. As a French speaking
country, this is a great way for our
students to think about the wider
world and issues that affect others.
Sixth Form Reminder
“We walked in as acquaintances and came out
as friends” (Molly Jeffries and Chloe
Chamberlain Y8).
Our Leaders worked overtime on Saturday to help at the annual
Bridgewater School Cross Country event. Despite snowy conditions, our
students worked hard to make sure the event ran smoothly, acting as
marshals and “hares” to the Y3-6 competitors. Without their input, these
events are not possible. Special thanks to Harry Sanders, Sophie
Ambrose, Joel James, Daniel Stace, Skye Berryman (Y7), Emily Alderson
(Y8), Ellen Northwood, Maddie Kiernan (Y9), Jake Alderson and Amber
Davies (Y10).
Ashlyns Trampoliners Bounce into
District Squad Well done to the
team who competed at the District
Competition on Wednesday.
All
performed
well
against
tough
competition. Special congratulations
to Callum Ginn and Penny Lee who
made it to the District Squad and will
compete on 18 March at the Herts
School Games.
Camelot Rugby Club Floodlit
Rugby Tournament Our Y7, 8 &
9 boys’ rugby teams took part in a
floodlit tournament in Hemel
against 2 other schools within the
District. Ashlyns were the only
school to participate in all 3 age
groups across all 3 days, finishing
in 2nd place. We would like to
thank Camelot Rugby club for
hosting the event and to the
parents for supporting our teams in
freezing conditions!
We have been lucky enough to
secure a Watford FC Women’s
football player to run after
school coaching sessions
specifically for girls at Ashlyns.
The programme will run for
6-10 weeks from next Tuesday
27 January and is open to all
female students (specifically
age 14+). Flyer attached.
Please return permission slips
next week for the biometric
registration which will be
installed imminently. This is to
reduce the queuing time for
students.
