MARKET VISIT
TO JAPAN
BIOJAPAN2015: YOKOHAMA
12 – 16 OCTOBER 2015
SECTORS: LIFE SCIENCE WITH A PARTICULAR FOCUS ON: REGENERATIVE MEDICINE CELL THERAPY, IMMUNO ONCOLOGY AND CLINICAL TRIALS
APPLICATION DEADLINE DATE: MONDAY 14 SEPTEMBER 2015
The Market Visit to Japan, organised by the Mayor’s Export Programme, in partnership with the London
Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) offers London businesses the opportunity to attend Bio
Japan - Asia's premier event for the global biotechnology industry.
In 2010, almost a quarter of Japan’s 127 million people were over 65 representing one of the world’s
fastest growing elderly populations. Research shows that this is likely to increase to over 30% by 2025
and to 40% by 2055. As a result, Japanese society is facing an increasing number of chronic and
long-term diseases, driving huge growth in Japan’s Life Sciences market.
Japan, after the US, has the second largest healthcare, pharmaceutical and medical devices markets in
the world. Total medical expenditure is over £250 billion a year and the Japanese pharmaceutical market
is bigger than both France and Germany's combined.
UK bio companies are in as strong positon to supply Japan’s healthcare market where unique,
sophisticated, and highly technical products are sought after to assist the growing population.
Opportunities exist in medical devices in advanced and innovative products for exports of finished
products, joint R&D and technology licensing-out. For companies in pharmaceuticals demand for joint
development, outsourcing of R&D, clinical trials and regulatory aairs to Europe continue to increase.
