The Lawrence Schools
Foundation is committed to
enriching the education provided
to all students by the Lawrence
Public Schools. Through the generation
and management of charitable gifts,
we seek to promote and enhance:
• A strong relationship between
our community and the
Lawrence Public Schools
• Effective early childhood
education programs
• Innovative teaching and
learning opportunities
• Recognition and development
of educators
• Encouragement of
student achievement
2
To provide the Lawrence
Public Schools, its students, and
its teachers with funding that will
enhance educational opportunities
and help achieve a level of excellence
in public education that is unsurpassed
in the nation.
Every child deserves an
excellent education. The Lawrence
Schools Foundation exists to ensure
excellence and enhance the vital role
the Lawrence Public Schools play in
our community’s overall success.
dear friends,
Building the future. That’s what our public schools go about doing every day, one child at a time. This is clear
to me as a graduate of Lawrence High School, the wife of an LHS alumnus and the mother of three Chesty Lion
alumni. It is why I volunteer my time with the Lawrence Schools Foundation and LEAP. I want to give back to
our outstanding educators, many of whom received teaching awards, classrooms grants or in-kind services from
the Foundation and LEAP this year. I understand the importance of establishing a solid foundation for life-long
learning by offering a high quality early childhood educational program for preschoolers whose families
otherwise could not afford it. I know our high school seniors, on the cusp of big decisions about their futures,
rely on the scholarship support we provide as they pursue post-secondary educational opportunities.
The Lawrence community’s continued investment in our public schools fills me with pride, especially
during these tight financial times in Kansas. Please know, the Lawrence Schools Foundation uses your
generous donations wisely: to train our future workforce, to strengthen our vibrant community and
to deliver on the promise of a bright future for every child in the Lawrence Public Schools.
—Gail Vick, President, Board of Trustees
a message from the director
I’ve heard it said, “All I really need to know I learned in kindergarten.” In my “kindergarten” year of leadership
of the Lawrence Schools Foundation and LEAP, I sharpened my pencil and learned a great deal about fostering
partnerships. Everyone I met treated this “new kid in class” with warmth, kindness and a genuine interest
in discovering how they too might contribute to the success of the Lawrence Public Schools, a jewel in our
community, with their time, talents and treasure. Like the fidgeting that occurs in the minutes prior to recess,
there’s an intense energy associated with the new Lawrence College and Career Center, its partnership with
Peaslee Tech and the opportunities both afford students, adults and local business and industry to learn, train
and grow. We’re excited to be part of it! In the hallway, we joined hands with the Lied Center of Kansas and
walked together toward providing greater access to world-class performing
arts experiences for all youth. We got our hands dirty on the playground
by involving pre-engineering students in building a playhouse to benefit
CASA’s efforts to advocate for the best interests of abused and
neglected children in our community. When the dismissal bell
rang on the 2014-15 school year, we looked back on time well
spent making community connections and building upon
educational excellence for all kids. With your support,
we feel we earned a gold star and a nap after lunchtime.
—Adina Morse, Executive Director,
Lawrence Schools Foundation and LEAP

There is construction all around us! Thanks to voter passage of the $92.5 million bond,
all of Lawrence’s 21 schools are getting refurbished, rebuilt or overhauled. Our students
need room to grow because, after all, they are under construction too! Your generous
donations make it possible for the Lawrence Schools Foundation to give our students and
teachers room to grow through enrichment experiences, scholarships, teacher recognition
and classroom support, innovative teaching grants, and partnerships with community
organizations and businesses.

and support from the classroom
Retaining our outstanding teachers through support for
professional development and grants for classroom
needs is critical to excellence in education.

business and community at work
for our schools
For more than 22 years, the mission of the Lawrence Education Achievement
Partners (LEAP) has been to create and build community partnerships that support
and enhance student achievement and success in the Lawrence Public Schools.
Each one of our schools, including the Lawrence College and Career Center, has LEAP
partners. Some businesses and community organizations are districtwide LEAP partners,
which means that any school in the district may call on them for assistance. LEAP partners may focus on
scholastic enrichment, such as reading to kids in class, tutoring or donating classroom supplies. Others
volunteer to help at school events or make monetary or in-kind donations to support these events. Many of
our LEAP partners sponsor Lawrence Schools Foundation signature events and purchase tables or donate goods
and services to make the Foundation Follies and the Community Education Breakfast successful. Our LEAP
partners enjoy being involved with the schools and learning from the students or teachers. The brand new
Lawrence College and Career Center offers new opportunities for LEAP partners to mentor and train students.

omission, please accept
our apology and notify us

The Foundation is growing too!
Watch as we expand arts access to
every child, every grade, every year, with our partnership with the Lied Center;
as our high school students build another playhouse to benefit CASA kids;
and as we expand opportunities at the Lawrence College and Career Center.
Please include the Foundation in your 2015 charitable giving.
We will continue to grow only with your support.
Please visit our website: www.lawrenceschoolsfoundation.org
You can help all students in the Lawrence Public Schools be successful by
making either an unrestricted gift for our greatest needs or a restricted
gift for a specific school, program or other educational need. Your
support continues to be instrumental in changing young lives and
building a foundation for successful futures. Please contact us
for more information if you are considering a non-cash gift:
785-330-1941.
We gladly accept online gifts at www.lawrenceschoolsfoundation.org
cash • checks • gifts of securities • gifts of real estate
life income gifts • planned and estate gifts
