Our Vision Statement: Manana School is a professional, positive, and
caring environment where student needs are met by addressing
school-wide needs.
Our Mission Statement: Standards-based instruction provided by the
Manana staff will empower students with opportunities to become
safe, respectful, and responsible members of our increasingly global
society.
Raising student achievement through school-wide needs is our
passion. We focus on learning.
Our Beliefs:
• Students learn at different rates and in various ways
• Learning experiences should be meaningfully connected to
oneself and applied to life
• Personal accountability is important for success.
Na Keiki ‘O Manana, our school chorus, is a non-profit volunteer
organization. The chorus is comprised of third through sixth graders.
Na Keiki ‘O Manana has performed for schools, hospitals and
retirement centers on the islands of Kauai, Oahu, Maui, and Hawaii,
as well as on the mainland. Since its inception in 1977, the chorus
has had a very successful history of concert performances and
community service. Our other programs include Enrichment, Math
Team, Science Olympiad Team, Robotics, Junior Police Officers,
Track /Basketball Teams and Student Council.
The campus is peaceful and superbly maintained. Strong community
and family support is demonstrated through our School Community
Council (SCC) very active Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), our
numerous parent/grandparent/community volunteers, and our schoolwide/grade level activities/events.
Manana Elementary is fortunate to have established and maintained
partnerships with the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard & Intermediate
Maintenance Facility, and the Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association’s
Pearl City and Beta Chapters, and Hapa Farms. Our partners
generously volunteer their time to read with students, assist with
physical fitness, and teach faculty/staff and students about
aquaponics and food safety. Other partners, including employees
from Central Pacific Bank, American Savings Bank, Mililani YMCA,
Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts volunteer during our annual
Community Clean Up Day and the PTO Spring Craft Fair.

Community Profile
The Community Profile information updated in this school report reflects selected 2010 demographics
for the High School Complex (HSC) area in which this school resides. Profile data are based on the
2010 U.S. Census, the American Community Survey (ACS) 2006-2010 five-year estimates (centric to
2008), and the incorporation of Hawaii’s HSC boundary areas with updated 2010 Census geography.
Figures for educational attainment and median household income are sample estimates obtained from
the ACS, adapted to conform to HSC geography, and should be considered rough approximations of
census counts.

college, career and citizenship.

Teachers tied web-based computer programs (i.e Starfall, Achieve3000 (KidBiz), and Fast ForWord) into
rigorous and relevant lesson/unit plans. They continuously reflected upon and self-assessed their needs
for professional development. Writing (Purpose, Process and Quality) continues as the focus area in our
work with SchoolRise USA. Improving student achievement in “Informative-Explanatory Writing” continues
to be the area of focus for the Pearl City Complex schools (12 -> K Construct)
According to the School Quality Survey (Spring 2013), Manana’s “Parents” return rate was an impressive
88.5%. The return rate for the State (elementary schools) was 37.8%. Manana’s “Percent of Positive
Responses” was higher than the State average in all 10 of the SQS Dimensions for Teachers, Parents
and Students. For more information, go to: http://arch.k12.hi.us.
The amount of students participating in co-curricular/extra-curricular activities (i.e. Na Keiki ‘O Manana
(chorus), Student Council, Enrichment, and Junior Police Officers (JPO) were maintained. Robotics
continues to be very and Manana participates in the annual Hawaii Robofest Tournament. Manana
entered a team in the inaugural Elementary Science Olympiad. Our team won 2nd Place Overall as well
as the Spirit Award. We have greatly expanded our aquaponics garden on campus, and now have the
capability to have an “outdoor classroom”. All grade levels will now be involved with aquaponics. Faculty,
staff, students and families are enjoying this new learning.
Goal 2. Staff Success: The DOE has a high-performing culture where employees have the
training, support and professional development to contribute effectively to student success.
• Induction and Mentoring support (training, coaching, support and feedback) was provided for all
probationary teachers to maximize their effectiveness
• Data Teams/Formative Instruction/Educator Effectiveness System (EES) training and professional
development was provided for all teachers
• Manana’s Academic Review Team (ART) training sessions were provided by the Pearl City-Waipahu
(PW) Complex Area Staff
• Manana’s Office / Custodial / Cafeteria Staff participated in training/professional development
opportunities (specific to their line of work) conducted by HIDOE
Goal 3. Successful Systems of Support: The system and culture of the DOE work to effectively
organize financial, human and community resources in support of student success.
Manana continues to be one of the highest Achieve 3000 (KidBiz) users in the Pearl City – Waipahu
Complex Area. Every grade level effectively uses desktop/laptop computers, projectors, iPod Touch /
iPad devices, and SMART / Promethean Boards that have been purchased. Our school website
(www.manana.k12.hi.us) has been praised for providing information for families and the school
community. All Manana teachers have a link within the school’s website. Manana faculty and staff were
trained and successfully used Google Docs.

School facilities inspection results
From the 2011 school year, school facilities
inspection data are no longer available at the state
level. Department schools are still required to do an
annual assessment of its facilities in the following
areas: Grounds, Building exterior, Building interior,
Equipment/Furnishings, Health/Safety and
Sanitation. All department schools should have their
annual inspections completed by the second quarter
of the school year.
Historically, the majority of the department schools
attained inspection assessment points in the
following ranges: 9-15, earning a "Satisfactory"
rating, and 16-18 points, earning the highest "Very
Good" rating.
