Kali’na
“Amerindian name given to the Caribs / Arawaks
when
Europeans arrived, in order to differentiate them from the
mainland Caribs of South America. Originally, they have lived in
the coastal area of the Guiana’s and in eastern coastal Venezuela
and are the early inhabitants of Tobago. They are known for
working with the bitter cassava. The Venezuelan dish Arepa is
credited to the Kali’na tribes. Kali’na are also known for their
artisanal work with calabash and word carvings”.
