NEWSLETTER 2016 WELCOME TO 9 THE LINKS MAY, 2016 Welcome to the first “9 The Links” newsletter. I hope you all had a good winter, the days are getting longer and a feeling that summer is just around the corner. I would like to take this special opportunity to share with you some of the wonderful times I have enjoyed at “9 The Links” with valued family, friends and business associates. Since purchasing this stunning property in 2010, I have added some unique artefacts, golf memorabilia and art work from around the world. To give the house a warmer, homely feeling we have opened up the original fireplaces in the sitting room and drawing room. We are pleased that Roger McStravick, a local golf history writer, has researched the history of the house which features in his book, St Andrews in the footsteps of Old Tom Morris. 9 The Links was also featured in a Wall Street Journal article on May 16 2014 by Javier Espinoza. “A Home on the 18th Hole” is available to view on our website www.9thelinks.com. The house is available all year round and we invite you to share in the unique “9 The Links” Experience. Kind regards, Jim Kinnear Owner, 9 The Links I hope you enjoy reading this issue which includes: History • Events at 9 The Links • Open 2015 • Dates for the Diary Staying at 9 The Links • Corporate & Incentive Events NEWSLETTER 2016 HISTORY 9 The Links dates back to 1872 and is steeped in history. It was only the third house to be build on the Famous Links and is one of the few properties which remains a residential home. Dave Anderson known as “Old Daw” (a feathery golf ball maker, then senior caddie and Keeper of the Green at St Andrews from 1840 – 1856) built 9 the Links plus a separate shop and house, the house was occupied by Old Daw’s son – the famous golfer Jamie Anderson (Jamie is one of only four golfers who have one three consecutive Opens). Between 1884 – 1886 the house was used by the “St Andrews working Mens Coffee House.” In 1887, the renowned golf club manufacturer Robert Forgan bought the house and workshop, producing arguably the best golf clubs of that era. The house remained in the Forgan Family before being purchased by the Carmichael family whose home it was for many years. In 2004, the house was purchased by an English businessman, who refurbished the house to its current welcoming, upgraded state. In 2007 a consortium of local businessmen bought the house before being placed on the market and purchased by Canadian businessman James Kinnear in April 2010.
