Reading Olympics competition spurs students to read
Every year, elementary, middle and high school students gather to read and discuss books from a prepared list for competition in the Bucks County IU 22 Reading Olympics. Recently, the QCSD elementary teams collected a rainbow of ribbons when they competed among dozens of teams at New-Hope Solebury School District. Some teams practiced answering questions about the books before school, some after school. No matter how many points teams earned, the fact
is the competition encouraged students to read, read, read! Here is a look at each team.
Neidig
Lead coach Vickie Breiner said the two Neidig teams earned a
red and green ribbon. “The kids had lots of fun and worked
together like champs!” said Mrs. Breiner.

Lead coaches Jeff Wolfinger and Jenn Rugerio reported the team earned a red ribbon with 48 points.

Quakertown Elementary
Coaches and monitors were Alicia Hughes, Mrs. Held,
Mrs. Germani, Mrs. Monserrat, Miss Herzceg, Mrs.
Foley and Mrs. Reynard. The team won a blue ribbon
with 51 points. Ms. Hughes said, “Two excellent
rounds helped them to overtake other teams. They
were an excellent representation of our school and
showed great PRIDE.”
