Dear Mr* Pilpels
My t r i p t o Santo Domingo does not work out as planned/ As y e t , I
did not receive ray Dominican ?isa even though I applied for i t on June 5th.
Also, I have to have r e - e n t r y permit t o Cuba, which has not been arranged
y e t . F i n a l l y , I cannot get any plane r e s e r v a t i o n s a t a l l , which means t h a t
I w i l l have to go t o Camaguey and take my chances s h i p - s i d e . All along, 1
L not think I w i l l be able to leave here before the end of the month, e a r l i e s t .
This i s al-rigfat because I am busy with arrangements of the C h i l d r e n ' s
P r o j e c t , which villi be s e t t l e d j u s t about t h a t t i m e . Also, I am ™rking on
the problem of the 22 Cuban Jewish Refugees stranded i n Spain which I would
l i k e t o see s e t t l e d before l e a v i n g .
As far as Santo Domingo i s concerned, two things occur t o me; f i r s t ,
assuming t h a t the incorporation of the J o i n t Relief W t t e e i n « » * *
T r u l i l l o should continue to make d i f f i c u l t i e s , what would you think of the
idea t o make i t s functions p a r t of the Parroquia I s r a e l i t e ? Of course one
would nave to i n v e s t i g a t e in a l l d e t a i l s whether t h i s would be p o s s i b l e under
the by-laws of t h a t organization and whether or not the by-laws may have t o
be ammended, but there we have a l e g a l l y incorporated organization which has
b e e H r g a n i z e d and accepted by the a u t h o r i t i e s and which forms t h e nucleus
of the developing Jewish Community l i f e i n ttaa Dominican Republic.
J ^ S
more, as you know, the Parroquia shares office space with the J o i n t Relief
C o m m i t ? e e y £ U y and we are subsidizing the Parroquia with monthly gfants
Mr. Egon Birnbaum i s a l s o the Treasurer of the P f roquia and Dr. * i l b e r ,the
P r e s i d e n t , i s the Medical Consultant of the J o i n t Relief Committee.
I t i s j u s t an idea but I would l i k e t o know how you f e e l about i t in
case i t should be possible t o work t h i s o u t . That would solve both.our
problems of s t a t u s and proper bank arrangements. In reference
}°™e
l a t t e r T l have spoken t o our National City Bank here which i s giving me a
fine l e t t e r to the Banco de Reserve i n Ciudad T r u j i l l o , t h e i r Dominican o u t l e t .
I n c i d e n t a l l y , I had a l e t t e r from Mr» Arons who t e l l s me of a v i f "
he made t o S i u d a d ' T r u j i l l o and he says t h a t things have improved c o n s i d ^ b l y
