What is Emergency Ride Home?
This service provides commuters, who rideshare, with a way home when
they cannot ride with their normal RTA vanpool, carpool, on the Relax &
Ride buses or the Music City Star Commuter Rail.
How Do I Participate in the Emergency Ride Home Program?
• Register with the RTA as a member of a vanpool, carpool or a rider
on the RTA Relax & Ride buses or the Music City Star Commuter Rail
• Register with the ERH program
• Share a ride to work with at least one other person on average of no
less than three times each week, or 15 times each month
• Be at least 18 years of age
How Do I Join the Emergency Ride Home Program?
If you meet the requirements above, complete the Emergency Ride
Home application on this form and mail it to the RTA.
When Can I Use My Emergency Ride Home Voucher?
The Emergency Ride Home voucher is available for non-stop trips from
your workplace to your residence or the location of your car in the
following situations:
• You or an immediate family member is sick or injured
• A family, personal crisis or disaster occurs, such as a home fire or
other major property damage
• You are required by your employer to work unscheduled overtime
after arriving at work
• Your regular driver is unable to drive home
Note: Emergency Ride Home vouchers may only be used in emergency
situations and may not be used for appointments or overtime that are
planned in advance or personal trips.
How Do I Use My Emergency Ride Home Vouchers?
Upon receiving your application for registration in the ERH program,
RTA will mail you your vouchers.
• You must have the voucher in order to use the ERH, so keep it in an
easily accessible and safe place. Treat your vouchers like money.
• Inform RTA (615-862-8833) if your vouchers have been lost or stolen.
• The vouchers are registered in your name. You are the only person
who can use them.
• Giving your voucher to someone else may result in your termination
from the program.
If you live within 20 miles of your workplace, you will be issued a taxi
voucher.

Complete the voucher.
Get your supervisor’s signature.
Include the reason for using the service.
Call the taxi company. Tell them you are part of RTA’s ERH program.
Make arrangements for your pick up.
• Give the taxi driver your voucher.
• RTA’s agreement with the taxi company requires that the driver take
you home or to your car at a Park & Ride lot. You must pay for any
additional stops.
If you live farther than 20 miles from your workplace, you will be
provided a rental car.

Complete the voucher.
Get your supervisor’s signature.
Include the reason for using the service.
Contact the rental car company and follow the instructions you
receive with your vouchers.
The next day, drive the car back to the company where you rented it.
You are responsible for the car until it is returned to the rental car
company.
An agent from the company will take you to work.
If you need the ERH on a Friday you must return the car to the rental car
company on Saturday or YOU will be responsible for the additional days.
Use of the Emergency Ride Home is monitored, so if you use your
voucher for anything but an APPROVED use, or if you give your voucher
to someone else, your ERH privileges may be terminated.
How Many Times Can I Use the Emergency Ride Home?
As a registered Emergency Ride Home commuter, you are eligible to
receive up to 8 vouchers per calendar year. You will receive vouchers
after you have satisfactorily registered for the ERH program.
