Fett Daugies rise while Sweet Lou’s fall
Going into today’s games a threat of rain was in the forecast, but the storm that opened up wasn’t
coming from the skies. It came in the form of Fett Daugies. Entering the morning session, the Daugies
were one game behind Sweet Lou’s, but at the end of the day, both teams were tied for the league
lead with records of 3-1. Fett Daugies held off the M&M’s, 8-6, to take game 3, while Sweet Lou’s
stayed undefeated by coasting to a 5-1 victory and handing the Clamdiggers their second loss of
the season. The highlight of the contest spanned the entire game as pitcher Tim Glosson went the
distance for a complete game, 14-strikout performance, while serving up only one run. Glosson not
only did it on the mound, but he did it at the plate, too, with a 4th inning inside-the-park homerun. The
two teams met each other Wednesday afternoon in game 4, and with a victory Sweet Lou’s would
hold a commanding lead in the standings except that Fett Daugies, coached by Mike Fetters and
Jerry Augustine, had other plans. They gave Sweet Lou’s an old-fashioned beat-down by banging
out 21 hits in the 13-0 drubbing of the previously unbeaten team. The top five batters in the Daugies’
lineup went 13 for 15 in the game, highlighted by Keith Hansen’s three-hit performance including
a 4th inning inside-the-park homerun. Also in the afternoon session, coaches Moose Haas and
Don Money were able to rally their team for a 16-hit, 8-7 victory over the Clamdiggers, coached
by Rick Manning and Dale Sveum. The win moved the previously winless M&M’s into a tie with the
Clamdiggers at a record of 1-3. Today is crucial for all teams. Can Fett Daugies add to their threegame win streak or will the Clamdiggers snap their three-game losing streak when the two meet in
game 5? It’s a must-win for Sweet Lou’s if they want to stay on top of the standings, but they’ll have
to get by M&M’s who are riding high after winning their first game. Just imagine the chaos that the
standings will be in if the Clamdiggers and M&M’s win both of their games today. If that happens,
there will be a four-way tie going into Friday’s morning session and last game. WOW!
What’s Your Song?
Four gongs of the bell followed by one incredible guitar riff, and you have one of the greatest
entrances by an athlete. When you heard those bells ring last year, you knew it was Trevor Time. “Hell’s Bells”
by AC/DC shook Miller Park and made the crowd go wild every time Ken Macha signaled for
future Hall of Fame closer Trevor Hoffman to exit the bullpen and walk to the mound to secure a victory.
Pitchers get to hear a good portion of their entrance songs, unless you’re reliever Todd Coffey who sprints
from the pen to the mound to the Ultimate Warrior theme. Batters, on the other hand, generally only have about
10 seconds to express themselves through their music when they’re walking up to the plate.
When you have a 25-man roster with players of varying ages, the taste in music is going to run the
gamut of genres. Here’s a taste of what some of the Brewers had played for them during last season:
Prince Fielder - “Heir to the Throne” by Prote-J; Manny Parra - “In The Ayer” by Flo-Rida; Mat Gamel - “My
Own Way” by Pennywise; Corey Hart - “Picking Wildflowers” by Keith Anderson; Ryan Braun - “Go Getta” by
Young Jeezy; and Frank Catalanotto - “Your Love” by Outfield, which was a crowd favorite.
I have to be honest that most of the at-bat music I hear at the ballpark is unfamiliar. Sure, I know many
of the artists and some of the songs, but my iPod only holds so much music and I tend to fill it with the music
I grew up with that is now called “The Oldies.” And when I turn on the radio, the dial’s usually on ESPN radio.
Other than Hoffman’s “Hell’s Bells”, I only knew two at-bat songs last season: Frank Catalanotto’s and Ryan
Braun’s. No, I don’t know any Young Jeezy -- I’m not that hip; but for a short period last summer, Braun had
“Smooth Criminal” by Michael Jackson played as a tribute to the King of Pop.
Since this is Fantasy Camp, I thought everyone should enhance the vision of what it would be like to
step to the plate as a real big-leaguer and asked what songs Fantasy Campers would want played when they
entered the game. I asked for two answers: one for when they were in their prime, and one for now.
