MONTHLY NEWSLETTER OF INGLEWOOD BAPTIST CHURCH
SEPTEMBER 2015
Not weary in well doing
Most of you know that the pastor and his wife are out of the office for the month of
September. The Management Team agreed to grant them time to work through
some difficulties that arose in their personal lives and many of our folks are
stepping up to fill the gaps through these weeks. Here are a few things we should
Church Events

 Sep. 6– Choir rehearsal
We should pursue church unity. Not
that we should be the same or think
the same, but that we should seek the
same outcomes and work according
to our gifts to get there. Generally, we
have agreed about what the ministries
of Inglewood should be. They haven’t
changed. Our ministries have leaders
and volunteers who coordinate
needful work of the church. We
should help them, encourage them
and thank them as they work even
harder this fall. We should avoid
criticism and idle talk, which
undermines unity and discourages
leaders. Be little islands of peace of
Inglewood.
We should pursue in our personal
lives. That means show up! If you
have committed to do a thing, do it as
if you are serving the Lord, because
you are. Participate in the ministries of
your church.
Continue to do the good things you’ve
been doing and seek ways to
encourage the ongoing ministries of
the church.
We should pursue prayer. God knows
all; we know a little. Spend more time
praying for your church, your pastor
and his family, your staff and your
volunteer leaders than you spend
saying what you think or fear about a
particular issue. All God’s children got
opinions and fears—they’re not
always useful. Your teachers and
deacons and other leaders are happy
to talk with you further, but our goals
are always going to be unity and
prayer as we talk with fellow
members.

Mission Team returns:
Chris and Kelli Zink along with Grace Agnew just returned Sunday
evening from a mission trip to “Asia” working alongside our Southern
Baptist Missionaries, Stephen and Tara who many of our church families
know personally. Thanks for your giving that helped this team go.
Kingdom Women - September 21
Maggie and Ethan Sandusky will be sharing September 21 at 7 pm in Kingdom
Women from their experience in England this summer which included learning the
culture and sharing their faith with tourists and Brits while studying with
Southwestern Seminary in Oxford. Maggie grew up at IBC and has served in short
term assignments in the Czech Republic and Brazil while Ethan has been on several
mission trips from his home church in Beaumont to Alaska.
As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew
sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.”
So he arose and followed Him.

Well doing...pg. 1
Pursue joy. We have so many reasons to trust God
in the life of our church. It is a time to be soberminded but not a time to be somber, as if God is no
longer on the throne. He still is. Trust him because
you know that he is trustworthy. Joy is the result of
confident hope, not circumstances. And our hope is
sure.
I look forward to serving alongside you, praying with
you and trusting God as he continues to lead our
church. Call on me or any of our deacons if there is
a way we can help you or pray for you. Call me at
972.642.4672 if there is anything I can do for you.
Heartlines Memory Verse
In every situation take the shield
of faith, and with it you will be
able to extinguish all the flaming
arrows of the evil one. Take the
helmet of salvation, and the sword
of the Spirit, which is God’s word.
Ephesians 6:16-17

Journey begins in discipling children
The goal of Journey is to develop relationships
with kids and teach them what it means to follow
Christ. As we transition to this new approach to
discipleship on Wednesday nights, we will be
helping each child learn how to take that first
step into salvation and to grow in his or her own
walk with the Lord through Bible study, scripture
memorization, prayer, service and Fellowship
in Christian community,
and ministry through
missions.
On
Wednesday evenings,
kids will be given tools
that they can take home
and use in their personal
time with the Lord. We
will be playing scripture
memory games, journaling, singing, worshiping,
reading the Bible, and asking and answering the
questions they may have about biblical content.

Do we give but hold back the best for ourselves?
During World War I there went out a cry for people to give
“coats” and “warm jackets” as our American soldiers needed
protection from the cold winters in Europe. The coats began to
be given and sent in bundles to the field. On arrival however, the
soldiers found that many of the coats had been stripped of their
buttons. Those giving were willing to give their old coats, but
thought they would find a better use out of the buttons. Of
course, the absence of the buttons rendered the coats difficult to
use and many had to be discarded. How often do we give but
hold back the “buttons.” We see an example of this during the
past week’s announcement by the International Mission Board
(IMB) of the Southern Baptist Convention when it was
announced that the IMB is asking upwards to 800 missionaries
to consider early retirement. This is because of lack of funds to
the Mission Board from the churches to maintain the current
number of missionaries.
When Linda and I retired from the IMB in 2009, there were
approximately 5600 missionaries serving with the International
Mission Board. Today, that number has reduced to about 4800.
Then this past week, the announcement was made there needs to
be a further reduction to about 4000. Southern Baptist Churches
have been known in the past as a Bible-believing, missionarysending denomination. However, little by little many churches
have allowed their own needs to be at the forefront and the gifts
to missions become less priority. Just think, if each Southern
Baptist member contributed just $2.50 more in a year, (about
price of a cheap cup of coffee), there would be enough funds to
keep those 800 missionaries on the field. If each church
contributed just $847 more in a year, it would forego this
required reduction of missionaries. These 800 being asked to
retire early are most likely the ones who already know their
language, their culture, and are potentially the ones who have the
experiences to be the most effective. If each Southern Baptist
Church contributed about $847 more a year, the needed funds
would be available. This would be a simple solution. However,
nothing in life is ever simple.
I’m grateful for Inglewood being a pace setter in regard to
“mission’s giving.” This week, our church received recognition
for being among the top giving churches in the entire SBC. Soon
we will begin our Christmas Mission’s Offering Emphasis.
Thanks for your mission’s heart. We are looking forward to the
blessing you will be this year in your giving.
This past week …
Thanks to our church family for your many expressions of
concern for Linda who fell last Monday evening and has fractures
in the left side of her pelvis. Thanks for praying for her. We
appreciate it so much. Also, be sure to get your Prayer Guide
each Wednesday night to get the most up-to-date information we
have on prayer needs in our church family.
Inglewood was among the 943 churches in the entire SBC that met the “Manchuria Challenge” representing 2% of the 50,000 churches
that comprise the Southern Baptist Convention. This group of churches gave over $36 million, or 24 percent of the total Lottie Moon
Christmas Offering last year. Thank you church for being faithful in giving.
