Two Koreas Battle in
Security Council
by JuHeon Suh
The Security Council
started the day with inviting guest delegates from
South Korea and Democratic People’s Republic of
Korea to solve the delicate
topic of conflicts between
the two Koreas.
The delegate of DPRK,
Dev Nalwa, announced
a full nuclear strike on all
the major countries, but
then admitted that the
statement was a an empty
threat to scare the world.
Surprisingly, the delegate
of Russia did not seem to
take the issue at hand very
seriously, and the delegate
of South Korea, Sanghyun
Park, criticized his lack of
passion stating that “They
are only playing games
with us.”
Russia came out with a
resolution that demanded
military denuclearization
from the DPRK, and permanent peace treaty peace
treaty between the two
Koreas. DPRK seemed to
agree with the solution, but
then the fickle representative changed his mind and
again threatened the world
with their nukes.
The resolution passed
unanimously
despite
the DPRK’s continuous
threats in both English and
Korean, and this led to the
outrage of the delegate of
DPRK, saying that “Kim
Jeong Eun is our supreme
leader and whatever gets
discussed in this committee does not matter that
much to us.”

The Flawless ‘Pizza’
Treaty
by Linh Bui
Israel and Palestine have
finally reached an agreement to their seemingly
never-ending conflict. In
moments of celebration
and happiness, the Ambassador of USA, Aariz Ansari,
compared the treaty to the
holy “pizza”, and praised,
“Our treaty is like a pizza. It
looks good. It smells good.
It tastes good. And you can
share it with everyone!”
After numerous deceptions and trickeries, Israel
and Palestine finally sent
each other their own resolutions to be merged together. The Palestine PM,
Nishant Aggarwal, was
caught red-handed by the
Israeli committee, as he
tried to gain a head-start
by presenting their paper to
Security Council. However,
even the Israel cabinet tried
to appeal their paper to Security Council and garner
support from USA, Russia,
and Jordan. As both tried
to gain advantage over the
others, they decided to be
mature adults, and cooperate with one another.
The bilateral treaty
showed many potential relationships between Israel
and Palestine. With the intervention of the UN, both
“promise not to attack each
other” and the “total dispute territories” would be
divided in consent. As both
cabinets agreed, this treaty
is considered the most beneficial and peaceful solution for Israel and Palestine.
Besides, who hates pizza?
WSMUN 2014: A Conference Beyond the
Classroom
by Shefali Rangi
A lot of students and
teachers put hard work
onto making MUN a memorable event for everyone.
Students have a variety of
perspectives on this. All of
these perspectives are what
makes MUN such a unique
experience to remember.
Idika Kothari, UNEP’s
delegate of Libya, feels
that participating in an
MUN conference is one
of the best ways to absorb
more knowledge about the
world. “It also gives me a
lot more confidence in my
speaking and sharpens my
interactive skills.” Khyati
Singh, the delegate of Myanmar for HRC adds, “even
though it is my third time
in MUN, I still enjoy it as
much as I did before. There
are so many things that you
learn through this, that you
do not necessarily learn in
school. I just feel that the
delegates should actually
take this seriously to create
a more interesting atmosphere.”
On another note, Wangchuck Sadutshang, the delegate of UAE from HRC,
connected his MUN experiences to his future. “MUN
is a great start for our future career as it gives us a
coherent understanding
of authority, control, and
thought processes. A lot of
work goes into it and it was
quite stressful for all of us.
But if we have enough time
to devote towards MUN
next year, then I would definitely participate again.”

unsure what to make of
Israel soon found out this tricky situation, de-
cided to support neither
of the committees. HRC
delegates were concerned
about risking the little
funding and resources
they had.
This heightened tensions
between Palestine and Israel and caused HRC to
believe that a war was going to commence. The
Governer of Bank, Egor
Suvorov, and the Minister
of Justice, Pranjal Agrawal,
gave a statement claiming
that “the Israel’s cabinet is
outraged by the situation
and will find it hard to cooperate with Palestine”.
As the two committees were presenting their
working papers, Security
Council came in and declared that they would like
to disband the committee.
They claimed that both
JCCs were unproductive
throughout the conference
and there was no need
for a committee that included only two countries
and constantly needed the
approval of the Security
Council.
JCC refuted this by
claiming that they do not
exist in the actual United
Nations and therefore cannot be banned. The Prime
Minister of Palestine, Nishant Aggarwal and the
Prime Minister of Israel,
Amaani Mehra, were quick
to defend their committees
to the Security Council
and the deputy chairs by
stating that the JCC delegates worked extremely
hard and the omitting of
their committee would be
completely unfair. Security
Council said that they give
both JCC fifteen minutes
to come up with a merged
resolution paper.
ECOSOC Saves the Day: Food Credits
and Family problems solved
by Manvi Seth
The third day at
ECOSOC began with an
unmoderated caucus.
The delegates discussed
resolutions regarding the
financial aid for sustainability in relation to food
crisis and family planning.
The delegate of China,
Aaditya Dhokania, presented the first resolution, which endorsed “a
resource sharing between
the nations involved in
[the] agreement.”
2 The MUN Times
This resolution was favored by the relatively
poorer nations. Prasiddhi
Shrestha, the delegate of
Nepal, exclaimed, “This
resolution will help poor
countries where malnutrition is very high”. South
Korea’s offensive remark,
“countries with no sex
education are a backward
country”, received much
backlash,
particularly
from Qatar and Bangladesh, and sparked a heated
argument between the
delegate of South Korea,
Shubha Tripathi, and the
delegate of Brazil, Varun
Pant. Subsequently, the
delegate of South Korea
rose and apologized to his
fellow delegates.
After much discussion,
the resolution passed with
a two-thirds majority. The
resolution encouraged a
coalition of members for
economic support in dire
circumstances.
