As the skies above Fortitude turn blood red, a new story unfolds. And if you know Fortitude, you know nothing is ever as it seems… SEASON 2 SYNOPSIS After last year, Fortitude will never be the same again…. The islanders have overcome the parasite threat of season one and they’re doing their best to keep going. They’ve wiped out any trace of the wasps - the source of the contamination - but residents are still leaving in droves and the mainland is trying to suffocate the town by cutting off its funding and supplies. Those who stay are doing so because their life is here and they wouldn’t have it any other way. Out in the wilderness, nature is growing ever more restless and unpredictable. When the sky turns red, locals fear it is a bad omen for the town. Sheriff Dan Anderssen disappeared soon after he shot Elena and is now missing and presumed dead. Meanwhile, Vincent remains traumatised by his wasp attack, but the fact that he and Natalie have finally succumbed to their feelings for each other means he can’t leave Fortitude. Governor Odegard and Eric are struggling to hold on to their marriage, and Odegard looks likely to be the first to throw in the towel as she grapples with an intrusive government figure that threatens both her office and Fortitude itself. Ultimately, with Eric struggling to step into Dan’s shoes, Ingrid and Petra are left in charge of policing a restless and fragile community. New faces are pulled into Fortitude’s vortex… Michael Lennox, PC Ingrid’s stepfather, is hell-bent on landing every Arctic fisherman’s dream: king crab, worth hundreds of thousands for a big catch. Michael’s wife, Freya, is dying but he is desperate to raise funds to buy medical treatment for her. And desperate circumstances call for desperate measures. At the Fortitude Arctic Research Centre, newcomer Dr. Surinder Khatri spots an unrivalled opportunity. Driven by her ambition, and evidence of a scientific holy grail, Khatri is willing to push both medical and ethical boundaries in the name of science. But then there is another horrendous death… What looks at first like a careless accident by a snowplough driver, is soon revealed to be a barbaric murder. And that’s when Dan returns - drunk, babbling and wild to the point of feral. Just as his own police team is trying to figure out who would have beheaded someone, a strange new figure appears in town, hell-bent on destroying an evil force he believes has descended upon Fortitude. There’s a demon amongst the herd and it has to be stopped, no matter the consequences… KEY FORTITUDE RESIDENTS IN SEASON TWO AMONGST THE RETURNING CHARACTERS NEW CHARACTERS DAN ANDERSSEN Played by Richard Dormer (Game of Thrones, ’71) HILDUR ODEGARD Played by Sofie Gråbøl (The Killing, Accused) ERLING MUNK Played by Ken Stott (The Hobbit Trilogy, Rebus) DR. After shooting the woman he loved at the end of season one, our tragic hero became consumed with guilt and disappeared into the wilderness, leaving Fortitude without a sheriff. As the weeks pass by, the people of Fortitude begin to wonder whether the deputy, Eric, can fill his shoes… When suddenly, Dan reappears, a wild, broken ruin of a man, as a new body is discovered on the other side of town. Dan makes a miraculous recovery – but not everyone in Fortitude believes in miracles... Just who, or what, has Dan become? Governor Odegard is struggling to hold her beloved town together as it recovers from the terrible events of season one. After thwarting the plague of pre-historic parasitic wasps, Fortitude is now sheriff-less and facing crippling cuts at the hands of the Norwegian government. As a new bureaucrat in town threatens both her office and the town itself, Odegard finds herself not only losing grip of her town, but also her marriage. Still hurting from the revelation of her husband’s affair, she begins to question her love for Deputy Sheriff Eric, as he fails to step up to what both she and Fortitude need. Erling is a mid-ranking governmental functionary from the mainland, and he’s known Hildur - and Fortitude - for years. Following the horrific events in season one, Erling arrived as the government representative. He’s been at the forefront of the cuts to supplies and fuel subsidies, and Odegard has been fighting him tooth and nail. But when Hildur finally rebels, and takes action for the people of Fortitude, Erling must make a stand. It is no longer just Fortitude that is a problem; Governor Odegard is becoming one too, and Erling will silence this troublesome town by any means necessary. A scientific prodigy, Khatri has had a successful career after studying medicine at Cambridge, and has worked for many prestigious institutions. After working on the devastating Ebola outbreak, Khatri accepted a new position running her own lab at the Fortitude Arctic Research Centre following the events of season one, and she is now making herself at home. But for Khatri, Fortitude represents an unrivalled opportunity: a small isolated community with a captive population, in an environment that is undergoing change and upheaval due to pathogen activity. Will her ambition push her to the edge? Michael is the patriarch of the Lennox family and stepfather to PC Ingrid. New to our story, but not new to the town, the Lennox family has been in Fortitude ever since local girl Freya married Michael nearly 20 years ago. Michael is a fisherman. Lately he has been struggling to make ends meet but he’s intent on landing every Arctic fisherman’s dream: king crab, worth hundreds of thousands for a big catch. His quest is made all the more desperate as he struggles to come to terms with the recent terminal diagnosis of his wife. Freya is going to die – but it doesn’t stop Michael from trying anything to find a cure. Recently arrived in Fortitude from the equally cold and brooding Siberia, Vladek is working as an electrician whilst he waits for his greater calling. For, it’s not just the police hunting down a monster - this enigmatic figure has come to town hell-bent on confronting the evil force that has descended upon Fortitude and its inhabitants. Elemental and quietly charismatic, Vladek is utterly committed to his cause: there’s a demon amongst the herd and they have to be stopped, no matter the consequences… But will his surprising relationship with Michael’s wife and Ingrid’s mother, Freya, be the undoing of him?
