A Christian Classical University-Model School Headmaster General Position Description The Headmaster of Providence Preparatory Academy will oversee, administer, and lead in the operation of the Academy. The Headmaster is the primary actor in implementing the strategic plan and vision of the Board of Directors of Providence Preparatory Academy as well as providing feedback and advising the Board on the state of the Academy. As the head of the Academy the Headmaster shall be responsible for crafting the culture, administering the daily operation, and guiding, directing, and developing the staff of Providence. Character Qualifications The Headmaster must first and foremost be fully-committed to and passionate for the goals and vision of Providence to “…to glorify God by partnering with parents, pointing students to Christ and providing a classical Christian education”. The Headmaster must be able to articulate the vision to those within and without the Academy. The Headmaster’s heart and character must also reflect that vision and pursuit of excellence to the end of God’s glory in all that he or she does. To that end the following character characteristics are desired of a Headmaster candidate: Commitment to Christ o Demonstrable fruit of repentance and discipleship o A mature understanding of Scripture and Biblical theology o A commitment to growth in the knowledge and desire for Christ and His kingdom Character above reproach o The qualifications of 1 Tim 3:1-7 generally met and affirmed by the local church and the community o Active involvement and service in the local church o A reputation for candor and honesty Care and compassion o Humble character, not arrogant or proud o Empathy towards families and staff o A Love for children and desire to see their repentance and salvation o A willingness to serve those under him or her and relish in their success o A sense of humor and ability to rejoice and enjoy the goodness of God with others Leadership and Initiative A Christian Classical University-Model School o A self-motivated individual who can accomplish the goals of the Academy with minimal guidance and direction o Leads from a conviction of what is right, true, and Biblical o Courage to stand firm on issues of great import and show grace on issues that are not of consequence Learner and Thinker o An avid reader and consumer of great ideas and thoughts o A person who considers the “why” of policies and procedures and has the courage to challenge them o Demonstrated love for learning and a self-motivated learner o A person who places a high value on education for the right reasons A Communicator o Ability to articulate ideas well, both written and orally o Comfort relating to families, supporters, and staff of varied demographics o Ability to persuade others to the school vision based on a deep conviction of the mission of the Academy An Administrator o Demonstrated organization and discipline in his or her personal life o Ability to balance many different goals and roles at once and prioritize accordingly o Faithfulness to commitments and awareness of personal limitations o Discernment in delegation to staff Professional Qualifications In order to effectively lead the Academy, the character qualifications must be also paired with the wisdom of experience. To that end the following professional qualifications are desired in a Headmaster candidate: Multiple years of relevant classroom experience or similar experience in youth/children’s ministries Experience with and understanding of classical education Leadership and administrative experience with a medium-sized organization Varied “people experiences”, either through ministry, sales, customer service, etc. A Christian Classical University-Model School General Responsibilities The below responsibilities are expected to be characteristic of the Headmaster. This is not intended to be a detailed or timeless job description but instead is provided to give potential applicants a sample of the typical expected Headmaster responsibilities. In addition, many of these responsibilities may be delegated as appropriate. Attending Board meetings as requested o Providing input into Board strategy, vision, and policies o Providing updates on school operations and culture Facility Administration o Ensuring physical classroom environment meets the needs of the Academy o Identifying locations for future expansion Promoting the Academy in the community o Directing advertising (print, social media, etc.) o Facilitating relationships with other schools and organizations in the area o Speaking at various school and community events Raising support o Directing fundraising and capital campaigns o Seeking major donors and supporters of the Academy Developing an operating plan from year to year o Coordinating with Treasurer to prepare a budget proposal o Forecasting staffing, scheduling, and facility needs Crafting of staff development and continuing education programs o Evaluating and coaching teachers throughout the school year o Promoting excellence in classroom instruction o Identifying training opportunities (conferences, workshops, etc.) Oversight of academic programs o Ensuring curricula selection/pacing is in line with school academic goals o Facilitation of accreditation process Oversight of admissions o Responding to inquiries about the school o Interviewing and evaluating prospective families o Leading information meetings/tours Participation in hiring of staff Management of serious disciplinary issues Administration of school records Development of a culture in-line with mission/vision of the Academy
