Cross-Curricular Paper Checklist
The Success Center is committed to helping you become an independent and active learner. During our
conference about your paper we discussed several things you can do to improve your paper. I have
checked the suggestions we went over to help you recall what we talked about as you revise the paper.
Formatting
 Reviewed terms and definitions—use of in-text citation with page numbers & bold font (Psych. 151 only)
 Reminded student to add proper citation:
o APA style (in text and end of paper)
o MLA style (in text and end of paper)
o Chicago/Turabian (footnotes/endnotes)
 Checked margins, font, line spacing, page header, and heading on paper
 Reviewed format for titles (capitalization conventions, use of italics and quotation marks)
Grammar , Mechanics, and Structure Reviewed
 Major comma rules (complete thoughts joined with a comma before and or but, etc.; after introductory
word groups; to set off added information)
 Sentence structure issues (unfinished thoughts between periods; no periods or semicolons to separate
complete thoughts; unclear wording; using the same part of speech when listing words)
 Verb tense problems and/or inconsistencies (The repetition of exercises helps…, not help; prepared
and presented, not prepared and would present; He is going, not he going; They were, not they was)
 Improper word usage and/or missing words (effect/affect; then/than; there/their/they’re)
 Pronoun problems (himself, themselves, not hisself or theirselves; everyone brought his or her slides;
using it, there, or this when the subject is needed)
 Incorrect punctuation usage (apostrophe: Hudson’s article, committees’ decisions; hyphens: selfmotivation; extra commas, etc.)
 Recommended spell check for multiple typos and/or misspelled words (defiantly for definitely)
 Organizational structure is unclear; paragraphing is inadequate, missing logical connections/transitions.
