Dear Parents, It seems like a very short term, but your children have packed in a great deal of learning! We have been having tremendous fun this week with all children working on lots of exciting Science projects. We had a great visit from Mr G – a most entertaining scientist – and all of the children really enjoyed the experience! Prior to our Science week, we had looked forward to the solar eclipse, and although the clouds failed to part for us to see very much on Friday, everyone was engaged in lots of eclipse activities. All children have undertaken assessments this term and we are pleased with how much effort we have seen. It was good to see so many of you at parents evening – anyone who could not attend, please contact your child’s teacher and they will be happy to make an appointment to meet with you. Year 6 have been busy preparing for their end of year assessments in May – I am proud of all of them – they are all really working hard to make sure they enter secondary school with incredibly strong skills across the curriculum. Thank you to everyone who filled in our questionnaire – we have analysed the responses and a summary is enclosed. It is lovely to read so many positive comments – we strive to make Huish as perfect as it can be, and your comments will help make our school even better. I hope you have a restful Easter break. See you in April Science Week Hair standing on end, muddy water, ice balloons, flubber! What is that all about? Science Week that is what! Again, the children at Huish have enjoyed a medley of practical science activities this week which have got them questioning, predicting, testing, measuring, observing, recording, concluding, as well as learning that Science is FUN! Reception children have been learning lots about the farm, which included a visit to Mr Snell’s farm. Year 1 and 2 children have been exploring acids and alkalis, and as result created some pretty scary monsters. They have been learning about magnetism and static electricity, as well as creating structures, using spaghetti and mushrooms. Year 3 and 4 children have made some cool stretchy plastic, explored their senses, tested the affects of air resistance, as well as floated boat shapes and tested cargo loads. Year 5 children have focused on materials through out the week. They have grouped and classified, tested properties, carried out insulation investigations, separated materials and explored ice. Year 6 children have been carrying out various investigations; from balloon propelled cars, illusions and the affects of noise levels on concentration. Mr G blew us away with his fun packed assemblies. He sent the cups on our heads flying and nearly blew up Mrs Barnes, using some very clever Science! Every child (Y1-Y6) also took part in an exciting workshop with Mr G. Ask a Year 5 child, what is actually in a nappy? And are Pampers better than Asda?
