Faculty Flex Survey Results, September 13, 2011 Summary prepared by the Office of Institutional Research Introduction This report summarizes a survey of faculty FLEX activity preferences at the College of the Redwoods. The survey was administered electronically via email invitation in the fall of 2011. Results were received from 47 full-time and 65 part-time faculty, for a total of 112 respondents. Faculty at all locations in the district provided feedback. Key findings Nearly half of all respondents indicated that they are likely to attend activities related to computers and technology. A desire for developmental activities related to teaching with technology also received more comments than any other topic. Activities related to assessment and classroom pedagogy were also at the top of the list. These activities were selected by over forty percent of faculty, although more part-time faculty identified classroom pedagogy as a topic they are likely to attend than full-time faculty. The topic of policies and procedures received the fewest selections, although numerous faculty expressed interest in learning more about changing policy and planning initiatives at the college elsewhere in the survey. Many of the suggestions relating to teaching with technology were specific to the use of MyCR/Sakai. Sessions related to the budget/financial planning, as well as integrated planning initiatives were also desired by a number of faculty. Other desired topics included working with ESL and disabled students, and mental health and behavioral issues. Faculty offered to lead development activities in a variety of areas, including teaching with technology, teaching and learning across disciplines, and assessment. In addition to these, several topics were also listed as of interest for faculty-led discussions, including issues related to student success and community outreach and support. Faculty were also asked their weekly preferences in terms of the times and days they could attend FLEX activities. Friday morning was selected the most by full- and part-time faculty. Monday and Wednesday afternoon was also preferred by full-time faculty. Responses were much more diverse for part-time faculty, although more of them selected evening and weekend times compared to full-time faculty.
