April fool’s day was a really fun day in my opinion. There were a few fun pranks and some not so nice pranks.
But most people were careful and on the watch for some pranks. I was pranked by a few friends myself, but it
was all fun and games. I think that April fools is an important part of our society because sometimes even
adults need to have some fun with things like these. It shouldn’t get out of hand though. The good thing about
April fool’s day at McCord is that everyone there has fun. In the three years I have been here there have been
no situations where a prank has injured or made someone upset. Even the teachers were joining along in the
pranks. Mr. Budas pulled a pretty funny prank on Mr. Shadle which was very funny. I saw someone get
pranked on my bus ride home from school too. This was my overview on April fool’s day this year.

National Arbor Day
What is Arbor Day? Arbor Day encourages people to plant and care for trees. Arbor Day is celebrated in
all countries around the world, though it is celebrated on different dates in different countries. Arbor Day is a
state holiday in Nebraska. The purpose of Arbor Day is to plant and take care of trees, and to raise awareness
of the importance of trees and forests. People who want to take pride in the well-being of their community and
economy celebrate Arbor Day.
Arbor Day is important to each and every community because it helps a long way with the preservation of our
trees, plants, wildlife, and food in farms. Some activities people do on Arbor day are hiking in the forest and
experiencing the beauty of the forest first hand. People/kids learn to identify trees. You can plant a tree in your
yard, and can even dedicate it to a loved one. The day was approved and around 1 million trees were planted
on the first Arbor Day. That is what Arbor Day is all about.

Fun Times at the Lock-in
On Friday March 27, Youth to Youth hosted a lock-in at McCord Junior High School for all the members
that are in the club. Youth to Youth is lead by Mrs. Gill and is a club that encourages young people not to use
drugs. The lock-in is a kind of reward to those people that don’t do drugs. The fun and exciting events that take
place during this lock-in is a basketball tournament and dodgeball. For the basketball tournament, you had to
sign up ahead of time in order to participate. The winning team was, of course, my team. If you didn’t take part
in basketball or dodgeball, other stuff to do was go to Mrs. Bensman’s room which was set up as a game room
with a couple of Xbox 360’s. You could also go to the cafeteria where a DJ was stationed and listen to music
and even dance. Also in the cafeteria were different types of snacks. In all, the lock-in is a very fun event that
takes place once every school year.

McCord vs. Perrysburg Track Meet
On April 15, 2015, the McCord Tartans took on the Perrysburg Yellow Jackets in a Track and Field competition at Perrysburg’s Varsity Football team’s field located at the Junior High. The two teams competed to
show their strengths and have a friendly competition with another team. The 7th and 8th grade boys suffered a
loss and the Girls walked away with a tie. The weather was quite breezy and made running a little more difficult, but that didn’t stop the runners. Many McCord runners took home first place such as Matthew Gilliland
who competed in the 800 meter run, and Chan Park who competed in the 200 meter run. Girl runner Angela
Dilday finished in first in the 1600 meter run, as well as Angelina Delbosque who won the 100 meter run. But
in the end, all runners did exceptionally well and Coaches Bavis, Masters, and Redd are pleased with the outcome. Overall, both teams did well and represented their schools in a great way. By: Seth Curtis McCormack

Being Locked in at School? Gross.
Being locked in at school might sound like a boring time…but not when you’re with your friends!
On March 27, 2015, the Youth-to-Youth participants were locked in at school. We were at McCord Junior
High School on that night. All the fun started at six o’clock and ended at midnight. The activities included:
dodgeball, karaoke, video games, a basketball tournament, a DJ, and an endless amount of food. All of these
activities called for a fun night.
Youth-to-Youth is a program for students to make good friends that will always be drug-free. So we gathered to have a fun drug-free night. It was lots of fun to meet new people and establish new relationships with
drug-free people. The whole point of the lock-in was to make new drug-free friends and that goal was definitely reached. The entire night everyone was smiling, talking, and dancing with their new friends.
I personally, had an amazing experience. One of the best points of the night was when I met a sixthgrader, who was tearing up the dance floor. My friends and I went over to her and she taught us all of her
moves. It was a really fun time.
The parent chaperones were very nice too. It was also pretty fun because my dad was a chaperone, and he
hung out with my friends for part of the night. It was just fun to hang out with my friends, eat food, and know
that they are drug-free.
In conclusion, the night of March 27th was an awesome night. I got to dance, eat, and make new friends
that will never force me into drugs.

McCord Track Meet
At the McCord vs. Springfield track meet many people showed up to watch the close event. The event
was held at Springfields’ track. This event was McCords’ first track meet of 2015 and was a test of what they
could do as a team. The two teams fought hard, but of course there had to be a victor. McCord boys fought
tough, but came short of victory, The girls however did well and outperformed Springfield which placed them
first. The team as a whole showed great effort making it a very well fought meet. The fans were also a great
help to the runners supporting them every step of the way.
By: Matthew Gilliland
First Track Meet vs. Spring Field
The first track and field meet of the season was at spring field. For the meet there was amazing weather sunny
with minimal wind. Our girls’ team won over spring fields, but our boys’ team lost. We had about 90 kids run
for our team. There were many questions ask buy the 7th graders and a few new 8th grader to the team, so
while the coaches were working the 8th grade runner that were on the team last year helped out.
We had many runners at the meet some ran, some jumped, and some throw. Everybody had fun which is the
main point of having the meets. Also, to meet people from around the area and have friendly a competition.
Since it was the first meet nobody cared about times or placing they just wanted to get the feel of a real track
meet.
No matter what happens this season the whole point is to have fun and try track. Mainly, it’s a way to see if you
want to join track either next year or in high school (depending which grade you’re in). We’re hoping for a
great season and more great meets to come and who knows there might be some friendly competition within the
team, either for spots on a relay, or just some people have close times in individual events. The next meet is in
Perrysburg on Wednesday March, 15th. Hope to see you there.

April Fool’s Day
Have you ever been pranked or fooled? Well, there’s one special day dedicated to that. Every year on
April 1st, people all around the world trick each other with jokes or pranks. Some hoaxes can be elaborate and
some can be silly jokes. April Fool’s Day is not a legal holiday but is still very popular. No one is certain
about how April Fool’s started but many people have ideas about how it started. Most people believe that it is
a celebration of the spring season coming around. Although, others believe that April 1st was the day the new
calendar was adopted in 1582. Several countries with all different cultures have different ideas about April
Fool’s Day but whatever you believe, you still get pranked!

The Boys and Girls track team went up against Maumee on Wednesday April 22. It was very cold 40 degrees
with 20 MPH winds. There were several great performances from both sides. Sammie Young came in first in
200 hurdles. Grace Donaldson came in first for the1600. And Lexi Lajiness came in first for high jump! Going
over to the boys the boys made a great effort as weel but fell a little short. Conrad Weisner came in first for
high jump. Ethan Pohorecki first in shot. And the 4x400 team consisting of Colton Powaski,Seth Curtis, Brendan Peuhl, and Harrison Hosler placed first as well. Also congrats to the other runners who placed!

Patriots Day
On April 20th 2015 America will be celebrating but what is Patriots Day exactly. Patriots Day is a civic
holiday that commemorates the Battle of Lexington and Concord. It was originally celebrated on April 19th
the actual anniversary of the battle, but nowadays it is celebrated on the third Monday of April. This holiday’s
biggest celebration is the Boston Marathon sometimes called Marathon Monday. This holiday is most celebrated in Maine and Massachusetts. In fact Boston celebrates this in many different ways like baseball; the Boston
Red Socks have always been scheduled to play home at Fenway Park on Patriots’ Day. Have a great Patriots’
Day and just remember that America’s greatest war started on this day now go watch some baseball never
thought I say that.
