MEETING MINUTES Feb 9, 2017
Called to Order: 7:51pm by Carol Shumski – President
Attendees: Heather Agnew, Shauna Ward, Denise Atter, Carol Shumski, Elly VandenEnden and Cees VandenEnden,
Harold Baxandall, Dee Palendat and Ted Palendat, Lori Lewis, Marlene Mizera and Larry Mizera, Bob Benary, Coreen
Lema, Tammi Henke, Ron Corbin & Carol Corbin
Revisions/Additions: Mail from Elly – sister city, food truck, fire dept, fcss. Rental for Advertising, Hall rentals, chinook
arts building insurance.
Approval of Previous Minutes:
Motion to accept previous Minutes Heather Agnew, seconded by Bob Corbin, all in favor, carried.
Financials Report:
The MVCU changed their policy that allows $3000/year from each account to be transferred to a common share account to
earn 2.5% interest. Elly VandenEnden suggested we should be doing this. Ted Palendat made a Motion to move $3000
from all accounts that are able, including but not limited to: General, Casino, Celtic, Library, Bingo, Building Fund and Pull
Ticket accounts. Seconded by Shauna Ward. All in favour, motion carried.
Library Report:
Attached for viewing. Motion to Accept Cees VandenEnden, seconded by Ron Corbin. All in Favour, carried.
Volunteer Appreciation Dinner:
60ish people attended, everyone enjoyed it. Everyone liked that it rolled into a meeting. Total cost $209.36 ($290.64 under
budget)
Dee is willing to do it again next year.
Community Hall: Harold Baxandall
Break Ground in July – possibly July 3rd is the Monday Stat. Holiday
Dev. Permit Feb 15. Building permit needs engineering stamp on the drawings. We are looking for someone to do this,
going to contact Norm. Ad for project manager is out. A few changes have been made, 2 of the doors in the hall will be
made larger.
Mardi Gras Community Dance:
Feb 25, tix $10 include dinner
Stud Auction: Denise Atter
All going well, if anyone has any suggestions for donations, please let her know. Things are coming in, volunteers in place
and extras have offered to pick up items.
Water Valley Days:
Nikki Davidson is running the daytime events – looking for corporate sponsors for ideas such as a petting zoo, dunk tank.
Requesting $5000 budget for the 2 day event.
Bottle Depot: Ron Corbin
Next one is March 4th, he stores the bottles in the shed, will take them in when there is more.
Cremona/WV Fire Dept. Hockey Tournament Elly VandenEnden
Jon Olfert is using the outdoor rink of Feb 20 th from 8:30-5pm. $100 per team, 3 on 3 or 3-5 on 3-5. 12 and under teams
and adult teams. They would like the hall to be open for washroom use.

Tyler Kergen does not have time to do this. Elly and Lisette McCracken are working on it. Go Daddy was $200US/year –
they are moving to Weebly $70CDN/year. Emails are all switching to gmail. [email protected],

Food Truck: Elly VandenEnden
A food truck has reached out, wondering how much it would cost to park here a few times over the summer as he travels
Alberta. The new event coordinator will contact him and suggest variable fees depending on the events.
New Locks: Elly VandenEnden
We need to buy new locks, smart key locks were suggested. Ron suggested master key. Padlocks need to be changed.
Larry Mizera said Key West from Cochrane provided them last time and to contact them.
Grant Updates: Dee Palendat
MVC Grant Deadline Feb 28. Applying for same request as last year. We received only the gravel last year. Change gas
range to a 60” 8 burner gas range that can be transferred to new hall, 4 patio heaters, programmable thermostat, 12’ step
ladder and include a new request for 20 rectangular tables. $11,000 total.
Cremona & Area rec board grant May deadline – Celtic Festival will request $5000 separate from WVCA grant request
$1000 for Xmas market, $2500 WV Days as well as Bobcat and gravel or sand and liner for the new rink.
Calgary Co-op Grant is Available IF someone else wants to take it on, Dee is willing to apply for it, $5000 available.
Local Business would like to rent space at Dugout - Carol Shumski
We are open to the idea. Many questions arose – who is responsible for vandalism, weather wear. Size? Can be done
after repairs are made when it’s warm again. Carol will contact the local business and draw up a contract.
Mail - Elly VandenEnden – Water Valley, Mississippi would like to share info with us, become a sister city – tabled to next
meeting.
FCSS – inter-Agency meeting – Heather Agnew and Elly VandenEnden will be liaisons for this.
Chinook Arts Building Insurance: Tammi Henke
Has the Insurance copy, Lease is good, all but one item not being followed. 75% insurance, includes $25K contents Tammi
will ask Julie Cole about discrepancy and WVCA should be getting reimbursed. They are paying liabilities only and have
their own insurance too. Will figure it all out. March 20 th insurance due.
They will be replacing the windows on the west side, and eventually all. They will do a fundraising auction to sell off old
windows.
Please add Art Show – April 29th and the Rodeo June 3&4 to dates of 2017.
Next AGM for Chinook Arts is March 8, 2017 at 1:30pm.
Hall Rentals: Coreen Lema
Niki Farquarson rents the hall Monday evenings, and now Thursday evening for 6 weeks. Taekwon-Do rents it Tuesday
evenings. ReFit rents Friday mornings for 8 weeks. Linden bible camp booked July 23-28 this summer. There is 1
wedding in June, and 1 in July so far. We need to discuss new hall rates for 2018. It is agreed that if someone rents the
hall, and the new hall is ready – they will be honoured the same price.
