Computer Electronics Show (CES) 2016
• CES 2016 was a 4 day record-breaking year. A total attendance of 177,393
gathered from across the globe to experience technology innovation
spanning 2.47 million net square feet of exhibit space.
– To put that into perspective, that's more than double the amount of media that
attend the Super Bowl.
• 3,800 exhibitors touching every major global industry filled nearly 2.5
million net square feet of exhibit space. It would take over 393 basketball
courts to cover CES'
• A massive number of products are launched at the show every year,
totaling over 20,000 products
• That's why CES is the world's gathering place for all who thrive on the
business of consumer technology. No other event gives your company this
depth of exposure and reach, because there's no other event experience
like CES.

CES History
• CES has been running since 1967, and some pretty huge products
have been announced at the event.
• The VCR was first released at the show in 1970, the iconic NES
(Nintendo Entertainment System) in 1985, the game Tetris in 1988
and satellite radio in 2000. The next year, in 2001, the first Xbox was
released at the show.

Favorite Fun new Tech 2015 vs 2016
•Siemens hearing aid vs Bragi: Dash
•The Ring & Belty vs Wilson X Connected
Football & Spalding ShotTracker
•MeloMind headset vs Daqri Smart Helmet
•Selfie Drone vs Passenger Drone
2015 Siemens hearing Aid
• Hearing aids are one of the most common wearable
tech devices, and yet often overlooked for flashier
newer devices such as fitness trackers and
smartglasses
Siemens has designed a new hearing aid
that allows the user to hear in
demanding environments such as noisy
restaurants, crowded parties and in
windy situations such as on a boat or on
the golf course.
http://www.techrepublic.com/article/ces-2015-six-cool-new-wearable-tech-devices/
2016 Bragi: Dash
• The Truly Wireless Earbuds.
– No wires to the device (BlueTooth) OR to each other (Near Field Magnetic Induction)
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
The lower half of each bud is touch sensitive for interaction and Gestures
3-4 hour charge, charges in 1 hour in it’s own special case.
Fitness Tracking: heart rate, step counting, time keeping
Personal Assistant: not very great “Yet”
Storage for it’s own music supply,
Hands free head Gestures accept or reject phone calls
Audio Transparency: hear the outside world without taking the buds out but the
noise cancellation still functions.
– Bragi has done some especially tricky software work to make that ambient noise sound
like it's coming from the corresponding direction. If someone is speaking to the right of
you, it sounds like their voice is coming from that direction. You can do this while music is
playing or not, and it's the kind of feature that you wind up wanting on any pair of
headphones even after using it just one time.

2015 The Ring
• The Ring is a Bluetooth device that acts like a magic wand to allow
the user to do everything with one gesture, such turning on music,
playing games or controlling smart home devices.
2015 Belty
• Belty is an electronic belt that readjusts itself whenever there’s a
change in your waistline. Developed by Emiota, it expands and
contracts automatically.
2016 The ili
The creator Takuro Yoshida started logbar with
a kickstarter for “Ring” but now that it has
been on the market for a year and is still $100
from $269. Youshida has moved onto the new
ili project which seems to be coming along
nicely.
Now LogBar is working on the ili one button
internet free language interpreter.
It’s also a fitness tracker that can measure steps taken and sends your health stats to your
smartphone through an app.
A 2016 belty has been started but the tests have not been positive and the price has not been
released yet

Daqri Smart Helmet
2015 Selfie Drone
It is Alternative Reality done heavy, and sturdy.
Somewhere in the ballpark of $5,000 to $15,000 a unit which for heavy high risk industrial uses
may be considered cheap compared to a disaster or lawsuit.
The Daqri helmet may not be anything like a refreshing drink, but it is an industrial application
that uses AR in a practical way -- one that's sure to become more integrated in other workplace
environments, too.

Ehang 184 Human-Carrying Drone
2015 Wearable Selfie Drone Nixie
• The Ehang 184, which will cost between $200,000-$300,000,
can hit 63mph, fly up to 11,500 feet and travel 23 minutes at a
time carrying up to 220lb.
The camera-equipped gadget in November won a wearable computing contest sponsored by Intel. But as of 2016 it
is unfortunately still not on the market

We'll have to wait and see if
the Ehang 184 ever
becomes legal, but Ehang
said at CES that it’s working
closely with government
agencies on the 184.

Always getting smarter and adding new features, plus thousands of

Questions to ask Alexa
1. Alexa, play David Bowie. Purchase music on Amazon and stream it right to the excellent Bluetooth speaker, though the Echo can also play
content from Amazon Prime, Pandora, iHeartRadio, TuneIn, Audible and Kindle Books. So, pretty much anything. All without draining my phone
battery or using up data — though I would probably replace a system like Sonos if I want to blast tunes for a party.
2. Alexa, did the Cavaliers win? You can ask Alexa to look up any info you’re curious about, like sports schedules and scores, who won the
Golden Globe for best actor in 2016, or the year Cleopatra born. She can even answer math problems, which is why we unplug her at
homework time.
3. Alexa, set timer for 10 minutes. Whether you’re setting an alarm for the cookies in the oven or the kids’ daily reading, it’s really easy to just
call out for Alexa to do it for you.
4. Alexa, start 7 minute workout. The results are simple exercises like jumping jacks and sit ups, but maybe it will get you moving — or your
kids?
5. Alexa, play NPR. I love how easy it is to catch up on the news in the morning since Alexa plays streaming radio upon request.
6. Alexa, what’s traffic like right now? Alexa can tell you the roads to avoid on your morning commute, which is especially nice if you don’t want
to wait 10 minutes for a traffic report on your local station. You can even get the estimated time of your drive.
7. Alexa, turn on my humidifier. Or bedroom light. Alexa can connect to any WeMo Switch enabled outlet or Wink Home Hub. Name it according
to what’s plugged in there, and Alexa it will turn on and off for you.
Play Bingo with Amazon Echo calling the numbers. Free printable Bingo cards via Aspen Jay
8. Alexa, play Bingo. Download some free printable bingo cards, like these at Aspen Jay, and ask Alexa to join you for an easy family fun night.
Unfortunately, she won’t pop the popcorn for you. (Unless you have a popcorn popper hooked up to a WeMo, actually.)
9. Alexa, how many calories are in a chocolate covered donut? Ask her questions, but be sure you want to know the answers.
10. Alexa, ask Translator to how to say “please clean your room” in Italian. Ask for translations in 50 languages, and you’ll find the answers in the
Alexa app. (Sadly, Alexa’s foreign language speaking skills aren’t existent right now so she won’t repeat them back to you.)
http://coolmomtech.com/2016/01/cool-things-you-can-do-with-the-amazon-echo/
Questions to ask Alexa
11. Alexa, reorder dog food. When you empty the last bit of puppy chow (or AA batteries or bulk pack of paper towels), just shout out for Alexa
to add it to your shopping cart on Amazon. In fact, you can add anything from your recent Prime shopping history, soo, no, your kids can’t sneak
and order an Xbox they’ve had their eye on without you knowing.
12. Alexa, turn down the lights. Connect the Echo to any Phillips Hue Smart Bulbs and she can control them through voice commands the same
way you can via the Phillips Hue app.
27 things Amazon Echo can do: Connect with your existing Google calendars to check the day's appointments or add to-do list items
13. Alexa, what’s on my calendar today? She’ll search through connected calendars (in the app) like Google Calendar, and pull up your day’s
activities while you’re making your cup of coffee in the morning. Nice to remember oh, those four hundred things parents have to do every day.
You might even remember to sign that permission slip if you ask in the morning.
14. Alexa, add “call the dentist” to my to-do list. Voila, it’s now there in your Alexa app.
15. Alexa, read my book. When Amazon Echo is connected to your Audible account, a number of commands allow you to hear any book read
through the speaker, skip chapters, pause, resume, and more. However this week, Amazon Echo added the ability to read back books in your
Kindle library. I wouldn’t use it as an alternative to hearing David Sedaris read Me Talk Pretty One Day, but it could be great for certain nonfiction books where tone isn’t essential.
16. Alexa, Simon says… Alexa will repeat whatever you say immediately following “Simon says,” which is a really fun trick to play on your kids if
you use the Echo’s remote control from another room and suddenly they hear Alexa say, kids, take the trash out. I can’t wait to see the looks on
their faces.
17. Alexa, ask Word Master to play a game. This is like Geography, in which Alexa says a word, then you have to follow with a word that starts
with the last letter of the word she said. The longer the word, the more points you get. It’s fun, and a little challenging for the kids.
18. Alexa, start Animal Game/Capital Quiz. Try playing 20 questions with animals or helping kids with geography. There are plenty more but
these are great for grade-school aged kids.
19. Alexa, start Star Wars quiz. Like that won’t be hugely popular.
http://coolmomtech.com/2016/01/cool-things-you-can-do-with-the-amazon-echo/
Questions to ask Alexa
20. Alexa, play Jeopardy. Trivia geeks, like me, will love the 6 game-show style questions Alexa asks each day. Just don’t forget
to answer in the form of a question.
21. Alexa, what Indian restaurants are nearby? Date night? Yay, now you can try that new place that opened that you could
never get the kids to go to. Or ask whether the local bakery is open right now, for those mornings you totally forgot to grab
cupcakes to bring to school for your kid’s birthday.
22. Alexa, tell a Democrat/Republican joke. She’ll tell you one, but we won’t guarantee it will be a good one.
23. Alexa, roll the dice. This is one of my favorite little cool things you can do with Amazon Echo. It’s Perfect for those games
that are missing dice, or younger kids who can’t manage to roll them without hitting the floor or all the other game pieces on
the board. (And FYI for all you gaming geeks out there, she’ll roll 10-sided, 20-sided, and other dice as well.)
24. Alexa, set the timer for 10 minutes. There, kids. You’ve got 10 more minutes on Playstation now before it’s time to get in
PJs and start reading. Alarms and timers are also a huge help for cooking when your fingers are covered in dough and you
don’t want to touch your phone.
25. Alexa, ask for a fart. No, we have not told our kids about this one yet.
26. Alexa, trigger find my phone. Another cool thing you can do with Amazon Echo, is if if you’re signed up for IFTTT, link it to
your Amazon account and download any of the dozens of recipes for Alexa, like find your iPhone, send a voice email or SMS
to someone, or even print your shopping list.
27. Alexa, more cowbell. The same way Siri has fun answers for What does the fox say? And what’s the meaning of life? you
can try one of the many, silly Amazon Echo Easter Eggs people have compiled on Reddit. Questions and statements to try
include Alexa, to be or not to be? And, Alexa, rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock. There are dozens! For starters, sci-fi fans
might try Alexa, do you know Hal?
