POI 2014 Are You Ready For an Amazing Week? ! ? ! Hello POI 2014 campers! We can’t wait to see you at camp for the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra’s amazing strings camp, Premier Orchestral Institute or “POI” as we like to shorten it. This will be our second year to conduct the camp on the main campus of Mississippi College in Clinton, MS. We know you are excited, but please read this entire information packet to help you get prepared for camp. Final Balance & Camp Documents If you are a prior camper, you may be familiar with the old system of turning in money and documents on the first day of camp. We are no longer following that system for a number of reasons, not the least of which is a desire to make first day check-‐in smoother for everyone. Please note that NO BALANCES OR DOCUMENTS CAN BE PAID ON THE FIRST DAY OF CAMP. Campers who have not paid their balance and submitted their documents by June 6th will be removed from the camp roster and will not be accepted for first day check in. If you still have a balance remaining or documents due, call 601.950.1565 to resolve immediately. Check-In and Registration Check In: 9:00 – 10:00 AM CST at the Aven Fine Arts Building (#10 on map) Check-in for day campers will begin no earlier than 9:00 a.m. on June 9th. This start time is necessary to allow staff to finalize check-‐in for overnight campers. Campers should arrive on time to the Aven Fine Arts Building, located at the corner of East College and Jefferson streets. THIS IS ALSO THE LOCATION FOR PICK-‐UP EACH AFTERNOON. For pick-‐ up, you may pull up in front of the glass doors at Aven Fine Arts Building, remain in your car, and have your child brought to your car. You cannot however, leave your car parked in this area. Parents are asked to complete check-‐in by 10:00 a.m. Staff introductions and skill evaluations will begin at 10:30 a.m. We will hold a brief skill evaluation to ensure your child is placed in an appropriate musical group. Your assistance in keeping with this schedule will help ensure that camp is off on a great start. Please note that parking is extremely limited for this area. There is a staff/faculty parking lot located on the backside of the Aven Fine Arts Building, which can be used during drop-‐ off and pick-‐up times. Medications Camp staff will not administer medications to day campers. Campers are asked not to bring prescription or over the counter medications with them to camp. Please coordinate your schedule to administer these medications before and after the camp day. The only exception to this rule is for inhalers for asthma and epi-‐pens for allergic reactions. The camper can keep these two items throughout the day. Meals Please send your camper with a packed lunch, snack and water bottle each day. In the alternative, your child may eat lunch in the dining hall for a cash payment of $6.00 per day. Schedule Start: With the exception of the first day as outlined above, drop-‐off for day campers will take place from 8:00 – 8:30 AM in front of the Aven Fine Arts Building (#10 on your map.) End: With the exception of the final concert as discussed below, pick-‐up for SYMPHONIC STRINGS day campers will take place from 4:05 to 4:25 PM in front of the Aven Fine Arts Building (#10 on your map.) Pick-‐Up for LITTLE MOZART DAY CAMPERS will take place at 12:05 p.m. each day in front of the Aven Fine Arts Building (#10 on your map.) Evening Concerts Each evening the students and staff will enjoy a concert performance from a selection of POI’s world-‐class instructors. The concerts will be held Monday through Friday at 7:00 PM in the Aven Fine Arts Building (#10 on your map.) These concerts are free and open to the public. Please feel free to invite your friends or bring a church or work group. Check www.poi2013.org for updated information on who will be performing each evening. This can also be a way to check-‐in with your camper. Final Concert There will be a final concert performance by the campers on Saturday, June 14th at 11:00 a.m. The location of this concert is being determined. It will be on the Mississippi College campus, of course. We will send out information via email, update our website and will send the location home with your camper once it is available. Campers should wear concert attire – black slacks or skirt, white blouse, black shoes. Questions??
