ACCESSING AND USING THE SFTP SERVER
sFTP Server Overview
Intermountain’s secure FTP server should be thought of as a temporary storage area to house your billing files or
reports until the files are transferred to your billing system; for more information please see Archiving and
Deleting Files from the Server, below.
sFTP Clients
You can use your choice of sFTP client to access the Intermountain sFTP server. Examples of clients that you can
use to access the server include: WinSCP, FileZilla, and WinFTP.
Accessing the sFTP Server
All 3rd party coding and billing offices should have access to Intermountain’s secure FTP server. If your office
does not have access to the sFTP server, please contact [email protected].
Accessing Files on Intermountain’s sFTP Server:
1. For entities outside the Intermountain Firewall, navigate to the Test or Production area of the sFTP
server using your sFTP client and the URLs provided in the table below:

2. Enter your assigned Username and Password in the fields provided and click OK or press ENTER.
3. Once you have accessed the server, navigate to the folder and file that you need. Files are named
according to the following naming convention:
• First two characters represent the facility (Example: AM for American Fork)
• Next six characters represent the date (Example: 011515 for January 15th, 2015)
• If the facility you are doing billing for has migrated to iCentra, the file name will end in _iCentra;
otherwise, the filename will end with the date as noted above.
• The file extension will be .csv
4. You can now either open the file or you can import the file into your billing program.
Archiving and Deleting Files from the Server
Once you have transferred the billing files, you can archive the files on the sFTP server (for up to two weeks), or
you can delete them.
Archiving Files
You can set up a folder on the sFTP server to house the files you want to archive. It is recommended that you
name the folder “Archive” and that if you choose to archive files, that you determine a process for when you put
files into the archive folder.
Note: Files are deleted from the server after two weeks. If you need more permanent storage of archived files,
you will need to save copies of the files to a server or hard drive that you or your office staff maintains.
Deleting Files
You can delete files from the server by highlighting the file and pressing the Delete key on your keyboard or by
right-clicking on the file and selecting Delete from the menu that appears.
Note: Once a file is deleted from the sFTP server, it is not recoverable. If you need a backup copy of the file, it is
recommended that you either move the file into an archive folder for temporary storage, or save a copy
of the file to your own server or hard drive before deleting it.
Viewing Patient Chart Information
Most 3rd party billers and coders will be able to use the files from the sFTP server to perform their daily work,
but in the event that you need to access patient chart information for auditing purposes or to verify coding or
billing for a particular patient encounter, you will have view only access to the patient’s chart in iCentra.
For general information on how to access and navigate through the patient chart in iCentra, please review the
iCentra Chart Viewing and Navigation for Affiliated Providers eLearning module, available here:

In addition to this eLearning module, other job aids are available on the page noted above for Anesthesia, ED,
and Radiology billing and coding staff; for more information on Affiliated Provider/3rd party billing, contact
