We are grateful for Show Hope’s partnership in our work here in China. With their support over the years, we have been able to do so much more for the children. Rob has taken the opportunity to visit our son Aron and his family in Indianapolis and he also had “fun with the guys,” on a hunting trip. I am pleased that Rob has had the opportunity to take a break. It has been several years since he has been able to do so as, on top of everything else he has to do, he has been my and Katie’s primary caregiver during my long illness. We had the great pleasure of yet again hosting Dr Phil Frykman and his team from Cedar Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, supported by Mending Kids International, who have come to provide bowel and general surgery for our children. They have just begun operating as I write so I will report on the children in next month’s newsletter. Rob and the “boys” at play Dr Frykman and his team at work We thank Dr Lim and his wife from Australia for volunteering their services again and for their continued support of our work. A group of babies and their caregivers left for Suzhou for surgery and urinary system assessments provided by surgeons and specialists from MedArt in Hong Kong. I will also report on these children in next month’s newsletter. 2 groups of autistic children and their parent/teachers from the Pathlight School in Singapore came and stayed with us this month. It is always a pleasure to have them. We have also had visits from several other groups and individuals and we are grateful for their interest. Confirmed Adoptions and our Hopes for adoption: DY Li has been returned to his orphanage to prepare for adoption. We had a visit from the parents of Micaela who will now be called Madelyn. LA Yan has been picked up by her adoptive father to complete the paperwork for her adoption to a local family. We are especially delighted and grateful to hear that 6 year old Jessica who has cerebral palsy will be adopted. She has been with us for 4 years and has survived several chest infections. It’s not often that we hear such great news about our children with high special needs. Colleen who had heart surgery is now well and has been adopted. DY Li Micaela with her new family LH Yan Jessica Colleen NHF/Show Hope Special Care Centers Jiaozuo, Luoyang, Xin Yang and Zhengzhou, Henan Province: . These Centers provide humane and loving, hospice care for infants and young children with severe congenital defects who are unlikely to survive under normal circumstances. Those who survive are unexpected blessings. Luoyang (Maria’s Big House of Hope ) This month, Ethan was admitted in a rather dire condition and was quickly sent to Fudan hospital in Shanghai. He appears to be improving. We appreciate the assistance of Love Without Boundaries whenever we need to send children to this hospital. Jeremiah left for India for heart and bowel surgery that could not be done in China. He is recovering from his initial heart surgery (he will need a complete repair later) and will soon have his bowel surgery. He is being cared for by Nurse Mariah. We are thankful to Mending Kids for giving Jeremiah this opportunity. Poor Nathaniel had to be admitted to hospital with a skin condition that could have been potentially dangerous but he has healed well and we hear that he is soon to be adopted. Jahzara with a severe heart condition who had surgery in Hangzhou has had a difficult post-operative period but she now has been taken of the ventilator, moved out of intensive care and seems to be recovering. Austin is in hospital with a serious bowel infection. Late last month Chloe, Aaron and Isabella passed away and this month Krishna, Azariah, Sherrie, Natthew and Baldemar passed away peacefully. Ethan Jeremiah Nathaniel Jahzara Austin Jiaozuo ( Show Hope Special Care Center) .Yvette and Zola were admitted this month. We loved and lost Jashith quite suddenly. He was being prepared for bowel surgery and it was a bitter disappointment that he did not make it. Henry is in hospital is Beijing for heart surgery. His surgery went well and he is recovering in the Intensive Care Unit Henry Xinyang (Show Hope Special Care Center ) Christian was admitted. Skylar passed away peacefully. May was transferred back to this Center after successful heart surgery to prepare for her adoption. May Zhengzhou. ( Show Hope Special Care Center). 10 new babies were admitted this month. One of them, Weilla, had emergency surgery soon after admission and she is doing very well. Yanka with Biliary Atresia was quickly sent to Shandong Province for surgery on her liver. Hopefully this will help her stay reasonably healthy till she can be adopted and have a liver transplant. After operating on 2 children last month Dr Yu from the MedArt team in Hong Kong will be back again in Suzhou to operate on Heaton and Maisie. We are very grateful to have him help us save these babies despite having a busy practice in Hong Kong. Myeisha has also gone to Suzhou to be seen by Dr John Ngan and the Oncology department there for investigations and treatment of a cancerous growth. Yethro is back after successful neurosurgery with Dr Yu. Desperate attempts to save Yvonne with bowel obstruction were not successful. She passed away peacefully. Hardy with Imperforate anus and a severe heart condition also passed away. Emergency surgery was successfully done on his bowels but his heart condition was too complex for him to survive. Homer, Brailey and Harry passed away loved and cared for. . Weilla Yanka Maisie Yethro Love Without Boundaries Heartbridge Rehabilitation Unit (18 beds) Diana and Linley have been picked up by the staff of their CWIs to prepare them for adoption. We are very happy for them and their new families. New babies Jenny, Jamie, Darcy, Grace and Khaleesi have come in. Jenny was admitted to hospital with a serious bowel infection but has improved and is out of the Intensive Care Unit.. Khaleesi was admitted to hospital in respiratory distress and is still in intensive care. Heaton Myeisha Diana Linley Jenny Jamie Darcy Grace Khaleesi Our Needs So many of our children need surgery or medical treatment in hospitals to stay alive. Any contributions towards this need will be gratefully received. Please go to this link if you feel that you are able to contribute to our Medical costs. http://www.hopefosterhome.com/donations.htm Prayer Request for the month:. Last month we asked for prayer for Weston. He has returned from Shanghai after surgery but he is left with a colostomy which may have to be permanent. Too much of his large bowel has been removed during pervious surgeries which has affected the normal function of this system. Now we can only hope that he will be adopted to a family who understands his condition and is willing to give him a loving home. This month we ask for prayer for Austin who may require surgery for his serious bowel problems. We are hoping for a full recovery. Weston Austin Our Most Sincere Thanks; 1) To Philip Morris for their very generous donation 2) To Vena, Rebecca and Winnie who collectively offered to cover the cost of coal for this coming winter. 3) To Gabrielle P. who donated funds collected during their Silver Anniversary celebration. 4) To Henry H for his generous gift With our deepest gratitude Joyce and Robin Hill “How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world” Anne Frank.
