4-Qt. Wax Injector #700-057 Instructions Operating the Injector 1. UsingtheON/OFFtoggleswitch,turntheunitonand adjustthetemperatureknobontheunittothedesired setting. 2. Fillthechamber1/3fullofwaxandplacethelidbackon theunit;donottightendownyet.Note:Startingwitha smallamountofwaxhelpstospeedthemeltingcycle. 3. Oncethewaxbeginstomelt,addmorewaxuntilthe unitisapproximately5/6full(whichisconsideredfull). Important:Donotoverfill! 4. Oncethewaxisfullymelted,checkthatthelidisin positionontopoftheunitandtightentheknobs securely. Setting Up the Injector 1. Unpacktheunitassoonasyoureceiveittomake surethereisnodamagetotheunitandallitsparts arepresent.Immediatelyreportshippingdamageto theshippingcompanyandtoRioGrande.Keepall packagingmaterialsuntiltheunitisupandrunning incasethereisanyneedtoreturn. 2. Placetheunitonasecure,heat-resistantsurfacewith 12"ofclearanceonallsides.Ifdesired,youcanboltthe unittoyourworksurface;thebaseoftheunitisdrilled toaccommodatethis(hardwareisnotincluded). 3. Connecttheairlinefromacompressedairsource (notincluded)totheinjector.Werecommendthatyou installanin-lineairfilter/dryeronyourairsupplyline tokeeptheaircleantoavoidintroducingimpurities tothewax(seethisiteminyourRio Grande Tools & Equipmentcatalog). 4. Loosenthelidbyunscrewingthetwoknobsonthe topoftheunitjustenoughtoallowthelidtoswivel freeofthebase.Removethelidandwipetheinsideof thechamberwithacloth,makingsurenottoleaveany debris.Checkthenozzletoensureitisfreeofanydebris aswell.Important:Keepanycontaminantsordebris fromgettingintothechamberornozzle.Contaminants cancreateairleaksthataffectthefunctionalityofthe unitandpotentiallycreatequalityissuesintheinjected waxpatterns. 5. Plugtheunitintoastandard110-voltreceptacle(or 220-voltreceptaclefora220Vmodel). 5. Adjustthetemperatureknobontheunittothedesired setting.Placethesuppliedthermometerinthehole atthetopoftheunittodouble-checkthechamber's temperature.Forbestresults,followthemanufacturer’s recommendedtemperaturerangefortheinjectionwax youuse. Please Note:Thethermocoupleisalsousedtocalibrate thetemperaturecontroloftheinjectorperiodically. Seereverseforcalibrationsteps. 6. Turnonthecompressedairandensurethatthe connectionsaresecureanddonotleak.Setthe airpressureusingtheregulatoronthetopofthe injectortothedesiredsetting.Airpressuregenerally rangesfrom3–15psiformostpatterns;however,you willneedtoadjustthisforthepatternsyouareinjecting. 7. UseRiomoldclamps(items701-112and701-115) orsimilarclampstoholdtherubbermoldswhileyou areinjectingwax.Riomoldclampsaredesignedtobe moreergonomicfortheoperatorandtoproducemore consistentinjectionsthanholdingmoldsbyhand. 8. Placethemoldintheclampandpressthemoldonto thenozzle,makingsurethesprueholeandnozzleare aligned,forapproximately2–3seconds. Please Note:Youwillneedtoexperimenttofindthe temperaturesettingsandinjectiontimesthatworkbest foryourpatterns. 9. Removethemoldfromtheclampandallowthewax toharden.Dependingonthepattern,thiscantakeas littleas10secondsorasmuchastwominutesormore. Remove and store all packing materials prior to setup. 10. Openthemoldandremovethewaxpattern.Ifthere areincompletefills,adjustthetemperature,pressure and/orinjectiontime.Adjustyoursettingsuntilyou achieveacompletepatternfill.Makenoteofthe settingsforfutureuse. 11. Turnofftheairtotheunitand,usingtheregulatoron thewaxpot,releaseanyresidualairfromthelineand pot. 12. Werecommendleavingtheinjectoronconstantlyifit willbeuseddaily.Ifitwillbeoutofuseformorethan48 hours,werecommendturningitoffandunpluggingit betweenuses. Cleaning the Injector 1. Openthedrainvalvelocatedonthesideoftheunit andletthewaxrunintoasturdyheat-resistant containersuitableformoltenwax.Youcanuseavery lowpressure(1–2psi)tohelppushtheremainingwax fromtheunitthroughthedrainvalveandtheinjection nozzle. m CAUTION!Usecaretoavoidcontactwithhotwax andthepotwhenpouringthewaxfromthechamber. Thesewillbehotenoughtocauseburns. • Theunithasapop-offsafetyvalveonthelid;iftheair pressureexceeds30psi,thepop-offvalvewillreleasethe excesspressure.Important:Thisisasecondarysafety feature.Alwaysmonitortheairpressureinthechamber andalwaysreleasethepressurewhenyouarefinished workingfortheday. • Waxejectingfromthenozzlecancauseburns;always wearappropriatesafetyprotectionwhenoperatingthe injector. Calibrating the Injector Thebulbandcapillarythermostatonthewaxinjector requiresperiodiccalibration.Whencalibrationisrequired, youwillnoticethattheunitiscyclingonandoffatthe incorrecttemperature.Tocalibrate,followthesesteps: 1. Withtheunitpoweredoffandcool,setthetemperature knobto150°andpulltheknobstraightoffthe thermostatshaft.Insidetheshaft,youwillseea set-screw.Usingascrewdriver,turntheset-screwtwo fullturnsinacounter-clockwisedirection. 2. Placeastainlesssteelthermometerinsidethe thermometershaftonthelidoftheinjectorandturn thepoweron. 2. Releaseair-pressurefromunit. 3. Carefullywatchthetemperatureonthethermometer. 3. Removethelid. 4. Whenthethermometerreaches150°,turntheset-screw clockwiseuntiltheindicatorlightlocatedtotherightof theON/OFFswitchgoesoff. 4. Werecommendusingflushingwax(availableinyour Rio Grande Tools & Equipmentcatalog,item701-216) tohelpcleanallremainingresiduefromthemelting chamber,drainvalveandinjectionnozzle.Foroptimum results,followtheflushingwaxinstructions. 5. Replacetheadjustmentknobontheshaft.
