2017 PLANNING
The 2017 structure looks like being a Year Prep with Merron
Thomson; a Year 1 class with Maya Lingard, a Year 2 class
with Josh Bride, a Year 3 class with Anne Howard, a Year 4/5
class with Liz Young and a Year 5/6 class with Stafford Hurst.
Natika Jenes will be our music teacher next year as well as
support teacher. Leeza Johnston will be on long service leave
for term one next year and will then be here one day a week
doing a classroom support role. Students will find out their
2017 classes next Friday 16th December and will spend
time with their new teachers on Monday 19 th December in
the morning.
Further staff news for 2017 is that Sam Menzies our music
teacher for the last two years will be leaving us as he moves
to NSW. We thank Sam for all his hard work at PHPS and for
making the performing arts such an enjoyable experience for
our students in his time here.
SCHOOL CONCERT
The end of year concert on Wednesday 7th December, produced by
PHPS music teacher Sam Menzies,
went extremely well with all grades
performing highly entertaining songs.
Well done to Sam and all the participating students – you deserve all the great comments
that I have been hearing. Our school captains Nyah
Hart and Steven Tung did a fantastic job as MCs on the
night. Please email to the school any photos of the
night that could be shared in next week’s newsletter.
Thanks to our instrumental students who performed
and to guitar / ukulele teacher Ewan Cloonan who
came along to help out on the night with his PA system.
See photos in this newsletter.

Thanks to volunteer Ross Anderson who is still “our
electrician” when needed. Thanks to Pranav, Vishal,
Ahmet and Karen at the General Store who are our
bank, post office and “canteen”. Recent thanks to Work
Experience student Aimee Swift who has also been a
great help during this busy time of the year.
As the 2016 school year and my time at PHPS draws to
a close I would like to sincerely thank the dedicated staff
team (including teachers, OSHC staff and office staff)
for their continued committed efforts and support. In my
13 years at PHPS I have been extremely fortunate to
have had such a hardworking, talented and dedicated
staff.
Well done to our Year 6 students who set a great example this year, were terrific buddies to their preps and did
an excellent job on their Leadership project. Thank you
to all our well behaved PHPS students who continue to
make this a great school to work in. I have thoroughly
enjoyed coming to school here each day. I have continued to be impressed with all your efforts in the academic areas, performing arts areas, sporting areas and leadership areas. With very few exceptions the behaviour
has been terrific and students here really do live up to
our shared values of Respect, Honesty, Cooperation,
Determination and Enthusiasm.
Parent Volunteers are vital for a primary school and we
are extremely fortunate to have such an interested and
supportive community. I would like to acknowledge everyone’s efforts and the contributions of our many helpers. Please know that you are all tremendously appreciated for supporting the school in the multitude of volunteer tasks – from helping out on camps and excursions
to covering library books to helping out in classrooms.
All your contributions are welcome and valued and we
are a better school for your every involvement.
My special thanks to current School Council President
Jason Ditcham and his predecessors Leann Williams,
Carolyn Taylor, Phil Norwood, Jo Dobson and the highly
supportive school councils that I have been fortunate to
have in my time here. Thanks this year to the very reliable uniform ladies Sam Pleydell and Sue Hamer. We’ll
miss Sam and thank her for her dedication to the uniform Shop over many years. Thanks to our efficient
Bank lady Michelle Scrivener and her helper Carolyn
Munro; to all the many enthusiastic ladies on the Parents and Friends who have organised lots of different
events and fundraisers (including Jules Grech; the Apple lady Kirsten Renouf; to Book Club ladiy Bec
Ditcham; to Bunnings BBQ organisers Cathryn and Carey Baldwin; the SRI ladies Carol Jenkinson and Lyn
Beattie; our daily newspaper deliverer Jules Grech (and
Mason and Coby); the Potato Lady Carolyn Spratling
and her girls; to all the families who attended Working
Bees, helped at BBQs and the festival Potato Stall,
helped with computers; heard children read; transported
sport teams and generally were positive contributors in
lots of different ways.
Thanks to the group of ex-parents and students who
return each year to help out at the On the Hill Festival
BBQ – Janine, Georgia and Tony Cox and Bruce Grisold.
Thanks to the ever smiling crossing supervisor Deb Matthews who has been a positive constant the whole time I
have been at PHPS, keeping our students safe as they
cross kangaroo Ground – St Andrews Road. Thanks to
Anna Whittley and the Hall committee who have been
very supportive of our usage of the PH Hall. Our access
to community facilities – the hall, the oval, the tennis
courts, the cricket nets, Memorial Park and even Bunjil
Reserve - should never be taken for granted.

TRIVIA QUESTION
Which current staff member has been employed here at
PHPS for the longest?
Either Anne Howard (2005) or Debra Anderson
(2001) – neither can remember because they have
been here so long.
