Pulse November 2016 - WNS Cares Foundation

Issue 14 I November 2016
Dear Colleague,
WCF has embraced the latest technology with open arms and our children are loving it! We initially entered into the digital
space gingerly, but have now become champions of evangelizing technology in various formats. Late last year, we started
the process of setting up virtual classrooms & providing internet connectivity to all our WCF India schools. The response
to the virtual classrooms has been stupendous & the vote for its benefits has been unanimous amongst teachers, children
& principals alike! I'm very proud to inform you that all our India schools now have Internet connection & at least one
virtual classroom. In another move towards an online presence, WCF is finally on social media! It has always been our
philosophy to be understated but the demand for continuous information about our work has forced us to be on Facebook
-https://www.facebook.com/WNSCaresFoundation. The broadcast mailers we send are just not enough, all our
stakeholders want more.
Keeping the technology theme for this year in mind, our Global Impact Day will be a digital essay competition - The
Golden Pen. It will have technology playing different roles at various stages right from children writing their essays on
computers to digitization of these essays. This year we have had a total participation of 1,25,000 children across the
globe. And of course, the live streaming of the final Global Impact Day will be the icing on this cake.
Speaking of global impact, international locations have come into their own with activities that are in line with the WCF
philosophy to Educate:Empower:Enrich. Poland conducted its annual Summer English Camp for children from displaced
families. WCF volunteers organized a job interview skills workshop for unemployed & conducted a workshop around this
theme. “Nikodem” plastic caps and lids were recycled for rehabilitation purposes. The Philippines conducted the “Brigada
Eskwela” and helped Bagumbayan Elementary School to create a cheerful environment conducive to learning. South Africa
too did the same at Sinethemba School Library with its Project Qhubekeka. Port Elizabeth volunteers organized a jumble
sale & car wash to raise funds. A Volunteers Training Program was held in Sri Lanka, to better equip volunteers to teach
and mentor students. At the Mattakkuliya students spent their vacation with WCF Volunteers, learning the art of story
making, story writing and telling, art & craft, music and computer training. 10 computers were donated to Khairiya
Muslim Girl's School impacting 800 students in Sannar Village. The WCF Volunteers engaged the Sannar village children
in storytelling, and story writing assessments. Our UK volunteers are a very active group participating in WCF’s
E-Mentoring program, which is a relatively small program but one with very deep positive impact. In the UK itself, a
celebration was held for the children at “DOST”. North America, which is also an active participant in the E-Mentoring
program, this time participated in the Day of Caring organized by United Way. Our volunteers read to the children and
participated in a school supply drive.
As you can see, our canvas is becoming larger in more ways than one. Your participation & enthusiasm are key elements
for WCF's success. Many thanks & look forward to sharing more news next time.
Regards,
Shamini R Murugesh

Sanjay Nainwal
Team MMC, Mumbai
I
have been a WCF Trailblazer for 2 years now and this
has been the greatest learning experience of my life. The
time I have spent with WCF kids are the most precious
ones for me. When I am at a WCF activity, I tend to forget
all my worries in life and become a kid myself!
Carla Chaves,
HR, Costa Rica
M
y journey as a WCF Trailblazer has provided me a lot
of satisfaction supporting kids at all ages in different
areas. It is great to see them happy just because they
have somebody to play with.
Sometimes kids just need to have that extra support
because they may not be receiving that support at home.
Hence I feel it is my responsibility to provide them
quality time when I am with them.
I love to participate in sports activities held under the
WCF umbrella. I also like participating in reading
activities where we read newspapers with the kids and
teach good manners which help them to be a good human
being and make them to create a positive attitude toward
life and society.
n Costa Rica we organized Math and English tutorials
to “learn while playing” and those moments were
incredible. The children expressed their gratitude and
happiness. Seeing their happy faces is priceless.
I know it’s a very small thing which we are doing but as
they say ‘Even the big journeys starts with a single step.’
This has been a great experience at WNS, supporting
WNS Cares Foundation.
I feel very happy and content when I see their delighted
faces. Thank you WCF for giving me this opportunity of
being a Trailblazer.
