A Note from Pam
Happy New Year Castle Gardens residents, families and friends! I hope you all
had a wonderful holiday season!
As we enter 2016 The Hearth at Castle Gardens is looking forward to innovative
ways to help our residents enjoy a healthy lifestyle. As a result, we have been selected to work with Sonostics, Inc. a spin-off company from Binghamton University, to assist them in a study on the extent to which improved blood circulation can
improve brain function and quality of life among older adults. The company has
developed a non-invasive device which significantly improves blood flow in seated
individuals. We will have several of these devices installed in common areas at
Castle Gardens which our residents will be able to use at their convenience, and
Sonostics personnel will check in with each participating resident on a weekly basis. If you are interested in participating in this exciting and cutting edge study,
please contact Jeri Wolfe at 725-8681, or attend the Castle Gardens Resident Council Meeting on January 8th at 2:00pm where the study will be discussed and devices
will be demonstrated.
I look forward to a healthy and happy 2016!
Sincerely,
Pamela
Holiday Party 2015
This years Holiday Party was very well attended. We had almost 350 people in attendance.
There were some spirits served, delicious buffets
set out, a variety of music was played, and there
were lots of family and friends gathered around.
What more can you ask for during the holidays. It
was great to see everyone enjoying each others
company. The smiles in the pictures tells it all. Kudos to all of the staff who helped make it possible
and enjoyable. As a team we can move mountains!
Upper right: The Brenchley and Carter families say
-Cheers to a Happy Holiday Season!
Lower Right: It is always great to have loved ones
near at this time of year. Pauline had a great time
with her family. Who needs mistletoe?

Ring Out, Wild Bells
From In Memoriam A.H.H. by Alfred, Lord,
Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,
The flying cloud, the frosty light;
The year is dying in the night;
Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.
Ring out the want, the care the sin,
The faithless coldness of the times;
Ring out, ring out my mournful rhymes,
But ring the fuller minstrel in.
Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.
Ring out false pride in place and blood,
The civic slander and the spite;
Ring in the love of truth and right,
Ring in the common love of good.
Ring out the grief that saps the mind,
For those that here we see no more,
Ring out the feud of rich and poor,
Ring in redress to all mankind.
Ring out old shapes of foul disease,
Ring out the narrowing lust of gold;
Ring out the thousand wars of old,
Ring in the thousand years of peace.
Ring out a slowly dying cause,
And ancient forms of party strife;
Ring in the nobler modes of life,
With sweeter manners, purer laws.
Ring in the valiant man and free,
The larger heart, the kindlier hand;
Ring out the darkness of the land,
Ring in the Christ that is to be.

Hearth Management is proud and excited to announce a new program in our Keepsake Villages beginning in 2016. The Nurturing Program is a therapeutic intervention designed to enhance the residents’ quality
of life in multiple aspects.
As nurturing is a natural human response, this program can help residents with dementia experience
needed fulfillment with regard to their physical, emotional, social, vocational and spiritual needs by using
either a baby doll or a companion pet. These aspects are essential parts of every human beings existence
and Hearth’s Live More philosophy. Feelings of pride, utility, tranquility and necessity often accompany
the participation of residents in programs of this nature. Residents who are occasionally resistant to caring
for themselves are often much less resistant immediately following the holding and caring for the baby doll
or companion pet.
As always, Keepsake Village staff will be available to supervise and assist residents with the care of the
baby doll. However they will be educated as to the comforting ways the baby doll or companion pet can be
utilized. The baby doll or companion pet will be coupled with redirection techniques, validation therapy and
our Mosher Gardens Method, thus utilizing non pharmaceutical interventions and programming.
The baby doll or companion pet will be available for any resident who wishes to participate in the program to ensure their dignity is respected and encouraged. If you have any questions or concerns about this
program, we strongly encourage you to speak to any of our directors. We appreciate any feedback, concerns
or support for this program and look forward to seeing you in the New Year!
Well a New Year is here already. Let’s hope for
a healthy, happy and fun filled one to come.
The Holiday Party was well attended this year. It
was so nice to see our families come share the holiday season with us. Our Gift Exchange Party was
fun with Santa, Mrs. Clause and all the presents. A
HUGE thank you to the families and staff for bringing in gifts for the residents for this party. It was as
usual wonderful to see the excitement in the residents eyes and the pleasure they get from a thoughtful gift.
We had some fun visitors in December, a few
different groups of girl scout troops came to sing
and spend some time, two wonderful girls came in
to share their music on their violins, Orange Blossom came for the birthday party to entertain us, and
the Cross Road Angels came to share their faith and
music. A big thank you to Nancy Thrash for her
Peppermint Ice Cream Social she held last
month. Everyone LOVES ice cream. Nancy is
very active in the community doing nails , helping with activities and sharing of herself with the
residents. She is greatly appreciated.
We hope the families were able to see the
cute ornaments that the residents made with their
picture in it. Inquire with activities if you would
like the ornament, hopefully it wasn’t taken off
before we could save them.
January should bring some normalcy to the
community. The hustle and bustle of the holidays tend to stress us all out. Look for some new
groups and programs to come. As usual we will
continue having fun keeping healthy, mind, body
and soul.
