Name _____________________ Paleontologist
Do you think dinosaurs are interesting? If
dinosaurs have been extinct for millions of years, how
do we know so much about them? Someone dug them
up. It is important to learn about the past. There are
people that go to school for many years to learn how to
do this. They learn where to go, what to look for, and
how to dig them up. When they finish school they are
called paleontologists.
A paleontologist learns about ancient life. Ancient
means very, very old. There are also ancient beasts like
mammoths and saber tooth tigers. These animals are
extinct and no longer exist.
Paleontologists have a
very important job. So why is
it important to dig up ancient
life? Digging up animals that
have been extinct for millions
of years can tell us a lot about
our planet. It can tell us how the Earth used to be.
