PREVIEW EXHIBIT
San Antonio, TX, July 9, 2013: The Amazing Gem and Mineral Museum will present its Preview
Exhibition on July 26, 27, 28 from 10am to 6pm at the Marriott Courtyard Hotel at The Rim, located in
San Antonio, Texas at 1604 and I-10. This special exhibit will feature rare and unusual gems and minerals
from around the world, including many from the San Antonio area.
This special preview will include over 1000 gem and mineral specimens including many amazing
minerals found around the San Antonio area. These include a 100 million year old conifer tree stump
from Bandera, petrified wood from south of San Antonio, fossils from the I-10 road cuts of Kerrville and
flint used for tools by Native Americans found in road cuts in Boerne and along 1604 in San Antonio. The
exhibit will also feature itacolumite the world’s only bendable rock, a lava bomb from an ancient
volcano in Oregon, muscovite sheets used for window panes before glass was invented, an amazing
collection of rough diamonds and diamond crystals and a real crystal skull carved in Brazil. This special
preview exhibit will showcase just a part of the complete collection that will be available at the
permanent home of the Amazing Gem and Mineral Museum, soon to be located in San Antonio, Texas.
The Amazing Gem and Mineral Museum has been established as a fun learning place for kids to
experience rare and unusual gems and minerals in a hands-on setting. For future gemologists we offer
the Gemologist Apprentice program, an introductory online course in gemology and mineralogy that is
available to children who are interested in learning more about gems and minerals. We have also
published a book based on our collection entitled: Amazing Gems and Minerals that is available on our
website and will be available at this special event, signed by the author. We also sponsor mine trips for
those who would like to dig gems and minerals for themselves.
Future plans call for classes and events designed specifically for kids who are interested in experiencing
rare and unusual gems and minerals in a fun learning environment.
The Amazing Gem and Mineral Museum Preview Exhibit is a child friendly event that is designed
especially for families with kids who love gems and minerals. Tickets are $5.00 per person with children
under the age of 4 free. Proceeds will go toward establishing a permanent home here in San Antonio.
