to CityArts!
All digital arts classes are held in the Digital Arts Studio using Mac computers and the latest Adobe Creative Suite
software. Please bring a flash drive and a notebook and pen to each class.
Adobe InDesign 1
Learn the software designers use to create newspapers, business cards, brochures and more! InDesign
is a desktop publishing software that makes creating documents for business or personal use quick,
creative and fun. You will be introduced to InDesign’s interface and will learn how to add text, photos,
shapes and more to a working document.
ABOUT CITYARTS:
CityArts is a focal point for visual arts in Wichita, Kansas. Its mission is to
provide education, information and artistic opportunities to all segments of our
community. Since 1998, CityArts has been committed to providing:
• Year-round art education programs for adults, teens and youth.
• Courses that start with traditional arts and extend to contemporary, in
demand offerings, such as digital arts.
• Gallery exhibitions by local and regional artists that offer diverse themes and
viewpoints about the world around them.
• Outreach art education to special populations that enhances their well-being.
• Opportunities for the public to enrich their own lives by purchasing
original pieces of art.

• Classes begin the week of June 5, 2017, unless otherwise noted.
• Registration begins Monday, May 1 for current students and Friday, May 5
for new students.
• Register early to avoid cancellations due to low enrollment. Late registration
is allowed if space is available.

• You will be notified in the event of CityArts canceling a class due to low
enrollment. You may choose to transfer to another class or receive a full refund.
• If you wish to withdraw from a class, you must notify CityArts 48 hours before

DSLR Camera Basics: Level 4
Building on the concepts and technical aspects learned in the previous DSLR levels, this class is
all about the rules of composition and lighting. We will also learn and practice Forced Perspective
Photography Techniques. You will be given photo assignments that will be evaluated that will prepare

Egg Tempera and Gouache - NEW!
Egg Tempera is a very old painting medium. With the invention of oil paint it went out of favor. This
medium is extremely durable and is applied on board or very heavy paper. The colors are light and
transparent. Gouache is an opaque watercolor and because of this it is more forgiving than watercolor.
Learn how to use gouache paints for creating small scale works on paper. You can come up with your
own designs or reproduce designs from photographs or other sources. Drawing experience is required.

CityArts’ versatile metalsmithing studio offers experiences in jewelry fabrication (sawing, soldering
and stone setting), lost wax casting (centrifugal), forging, forming, enameling and lapidary on a limited

Where are the POTTERY classes?
The current pottery class schedule runs May 9 through August 17. Keep your eyes peeled
for the next round of classes — open to all levels of expertise — beginning September 5.
Can’t wait until September to dive into pottery? No problem. Check the Workshops page
on the CityArts website for drop-in pottery (and other) workshops as they’re developed.

Summer
Youth Art Camps
Join CityArts for a summer-long celebration of art.
Each week, campers ages 6-15 will work on projects in various
mediums, including silversmithing, glass fusing, digital arts,
painting, drawing, acting, pottery and more.
Camps run weekly June 5-August 11
(NO CAMP July 3-7)
Cost is $175 per week
Campers need to bring a sack lunch each day.
Early drop off (7:30 a.m.) & late pick up (5:30 p.m.)
are available daily at no extra cost.

Cupcake Challenge

Tickets: $10 (cupcake tastings & voting ballot)
Tickets go on sale Monday, June 5. Stop by the CityArts

The CityArts Cupcake Challenge is the sweetest competition the
city has ever seen. Contestants with the best cupcake recipe can
submit their creation to be judged by a panel of local foodies.
All proceeds raised will support CityArts’ community outreach
programming opportunities to underserved populations.

There is a $25 entry fee, limit one entry per person or business.
