Programs - Central Baptist College

The J. E. and L. E. Mabee Foundation of Tulsa, Oklahoma, has awarded
Central Baptist College a $750,000 challenge grant. The challenge grant
will be used to help fund the construction of the 38,000 square foot
Signature Academic building and to renovate and expand the existing
library building. These two projects are the first of ten major construction
projects in Vision 2020: A Miracle in the Making - a plan to complete
10 major projects in the next 10 years to accommodate an enrollment
of 2020 students.
According to CBC President Terry Kimbrow, “We made application
to the Mabee Foundation for financial assistance on the two
combined projects because they are both tied to the first phase
of Vision 2020.” The new Academic Building will allow the
relocation of the current administration offices, now housed
in a building shared with the J.E. Cobb Library. When the
administrative side is vacated, the renovation and addition to
the library will more than double the current floor space.
Though not required by the Mabee Foundation, the third floor
of the new Academic Building will be named in recognition
of the Mabee Foundation’s continued support. Central
Baptist College has received three other grants from Mabee
over the years, the most recent one for $250,000 in 1996
during the successful capital campaign that raised money
to build the Mabee Student Services Complex. “We are
extremely pleased to receive this challenge grant from
the Mabee Foundation,” Kimbrow said. “We have
long enjoyed a great partnership with the Foundation.”
The challenge grant of $750,000 will be paid to the
College provided the institution raises the balance
needed for the two projects, estimated at $8,600,000.
According to Kimbrow, “We currently have over
$7.8 million in contributions and commitments to
Vision 2020. Our task between now and July
2012 is to raise an additional $784,652 from
other contributors to receive the Mabee grant.”

Vision 2020: A Miracle in the Making is a plan to complete 10 major
construction projects in 10 years to accommodate a student enrollment
of 2020 students. We kicked off the first phase of Vision 2020 early
this year with a goal of $12,000,000. This initial phase includes the
construction of a 38,000 square foot Academic Building (currently
under construction); the renovation/expansion of the J. E. Cobb
Library; and the construction of a new student residence hall. The
$12,000,000 campaign is divided into smaller campaigns as follows:
steering committee for the Student
Campaign which was introduced
during a September chapel service.
The student campaign is still in the
planning phase and will take place
during the spring semester. The students have set a $50,000 goal.
Alumni Campaign
The Board Campaign began on May 7, 2011. CBC’s Board of Trustee
members completed a three-hour fundraising training session and
were then asked to either personally make five fundraising visits or
to facilitate those visits between their contacts and CBC Development
Staff. The 20 member Board of Trustees committed to a fundraising
goal of $1.2 million and is over halfway to their goal.
The Alumni Campaign kickoff will coincide with Homecoming
activities which will take place in February of 2012. Mark Livingston
(CBC ’01) has agreed to lead in the alumni project to raise $175,000
to name the Lecture Hall in the new academic building in memory of
Dr. Ronald V. Mitchell. Proceeds from the Benefit Dinner during this
year’s Homecoming activities will go towards the alumni project. Look
for more information about this project in upcoming editions of the
Connecting Point.
Conway Campaign
Church Campaign
Board Campaign
The Conway Campaign, which began on May 9, 2011, is open to
businesses that operate in Conway (and Faulkner County), Arkansas.
A thirteen-member Conway Campaign Steering Committee was
formed and each of those members was asked to invite five guests to
the kickoff luncheon. Each attendee was then asked to facilitate at least
three fundraising visits. The goal for the Conway Campaign is $1.5
million, and Conway Corporation made a lead gift of $750,000 toward
this goal.
The Church Campaign was presented at the 2011 Annual Meeting of
the BMA of Arkansas. September 16, 2012 has been designated “CBC
Sunday.” Churches have been asked to either take a special offering on
that day and/or to consider adding a commitment to Vision 2020 into
their annual church budget. A goal of $250,000 has been set for this
segment of the campaign.
Friends of CBC
For many years, CBC has enjoyed support from individuals and
businesses that do not fit into any of the previously mentioned
campaign segments. In fact, the majority of our financial contributors
are in this group.
Employee Campaign
The Employee Campaign took place during the months of October and
November of 2011. All current employees were challenged to give
toward a $150,000 goal. Commitments are still coming in, but current
commitments and gifts total over $151,320.
Foundations
CBC was issued a Mabee Challenge Grant in July of 2011 and is
currently working to meet this challenge by July of 2012 (see related
article on Page 1 of the newsletter). Several other private foundation
grant proposals are in process.

CBC Announces Launch of
Online Degree Programs
Central Baptist College has launched an accredited
online degree program starting in the fall 2011. The
program is accredited though The Higher Learning
Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges
and Schools. Though the institution has offered classes
in the distance delivery method for quite some time, CBC
will now offer students the ability to earn their entire
degree online from the regionally accredited college.
“The primary purpose of offering distanced-delivered
courses and programs at Central Baptist College is to
provide access to students who cannot attend face-toface classes on campus,” said Dr. Gary McAllister, Vice
President of Academic Affairs at CBC. “Some live too
far from campus, and others have scheduling conflicts
that prevent them from taking the classes they need.
Distance-delivered courses can resolve these issues.”
CBC Online is convenient and flexible for adults with busy lifestyles. The program offers
students a way to study or learn on a flexible schedule. It is also convenient for students with
children, full-time jobs, who live far away or are on the mission field. The slogan for the new
degree program is “college at your convenience.”
“Approval of our online studies program by the Higher Learning Commission of the North
Central Association of Colleges and Schools is a major accomplishment for CBC. It will have
a profound impact upon the institution,” said CBC President Terry Kimbrow.
Active recruitment and enrollment are now underway in preparation for the first online
degrees. Prospective students may visit www.cbc.edu/online for more information or call 501329-6872 ext. 168.

Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction
to benefit the
Ronald V. Mitchell
Lecture Hall
Central Baptist College is pleased to announce the fifth annual Benefit Dinner and Silent
Auction to be held on Saturday, February 18, 2012 in the Mabee Student Services Complex.
Proceeds from the event will benefit The Ronald V. Mitchell Lecture Hall, which is the Alumni
Project in the new Academic Building.
Dr. Mitchell was a professor of history/theology at CBC for 20 years and passed away in
May of 2009 after an almost yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. The lecture hall in the new
Academic Building will be named in his memory for his years of service to CBC and for the
impact he had on the lives of so many students. Before Dr. Mitchell passed away, he participated
in an on camera interview where he reflected on his life and his time at CBC. A portion of that
video will be shown for the first time during the Benefit Dinner program.
The silent auction will open at 6:30 p.m., and assorted hors d’oeuvres will be served. The
program and dinner will follow at approximately 7:30 p.m. Dinner this year will be prepared by
Central Baptist College Dining Services, under the direction of executive chef, Jill McCollum.
Individual tickets are $50 and sponsorships range from $500 to $10,000. To purchase
individual tickets, become an event sponsor, or donate an item(s) to the silent auction please
visit www.cbc.edu and click on the event link in the CBC News Section. In order for sponsors to
have their name and/or logo (dependent on sponsorship level) listed on promotional materials,
sponsorship forms and payment must be received at Central Baptist College prior to February 10,
2012.

Owned and operated by the Baptist Missionary Association of Arkansas
Address Service Requested
For the first time in the history of
Central Baptist College, enrollment has
topped the 850 mark. According to a
report released by the Office of the Registrar, overall fall enrollment officially
closed at 858, up 116 students (a 16%
increase) over the fall 2010 enrollment
of 742.
The increase, based on percentage, allows CBC to be ranked #1 in a
preliminary report from the Arkansas
Department of Higher Education. CBC
soars to the top of the list of all Arkansas
Institutions followed by Southern Arkansas Tech and John Brown University.
Final enrollment figures include
a 19% increase in traditional student enrollment with 558 students and 300 students in the PACE (Professional Adult
College Education) and Online degree
programs which is a 10% increase.
“This is our sixth consecutive
year to post a record fall enrollment,”
said CBC President Terry Kimbrow.
“This kind of growth brings numerous challenges—housing, parking,
and financial resources to mention a
few. But, I welcome these problems
and, in fact, have anticipated them.”
Vision 2020: A Miracle in the Making is a 10-year master plan that is
guiding future growth at the institution. The plan is based on a future
enrollment of 2,020 students and includes 10 major construction projects
in the next 10 years.
Kimbrow commented, “I am
very pleased to see enrollment exceed 850 for the first time in the history of the institution. We are well
on our way to reaching our goal of
2020 students by the year 2020.”
