Welcome to the Summer Term
Our value for the term is RESPECT. The Bible gives children (of any age) the responsibility to respect
their parents. It tells everyone to respect other people and treat them in the same way as they would
like to be treated themselves. It is important to teach children that:
Respect does not equal agreement about everything and
disagreement does not equal disrespect
Respect does not equal getting what you want and not getting
your own way does not equal being disrespected
Winning an argument does not equal gaining respect and
conceding that somebody else has a point does not equal losing
the respect of others
We want our children to be the ‘leaders of tomorrow’ and a force for what is just and good. They will not
be able to do this by blindly accepting everything around them. They need to be able to argue a case,
challenge bad things, lobby for change and oppose poor governance. It is possible, however, to do all
these things whilst still treating the person/people on the ‘other side’ with respect.
It’s not an easy balance but it is an essential life skill.
Reminder: School Easter Services – at St Michael’s Church – Tomorrow



Thursday, 20th April, 2pm – Gabriel Easter Service

after school this week.
Year Four: Tolmers Camp Meeting
A date for your diaries – we will be holding an information meeting regarding Year 4’s trip to Tolmers on
Tuesday, 25th April at 3:45pm and again at 4:15pm.
St. George’s Day
At St. Michael’s, many of our children attend uniformed organisations such as Cubs,
Guides, Brownies, Boys’ Brigade, Rainbows etc. On St. George’s Day, it is traditional
to ask children to wear their uniforms to school to represent those organisations –
however it falls on a Sunday this year, so those children who are members of uniformed organisations
are welcome to wear their uniforms on Friday, 21st April instead.
Year Three PTA Cake Sale and Coffee Morning
A date for your diaries – Year Three are holding a PTA coffee morning on Friday,
28th April at 9:15am in the Dining Hall.
Summer Uniform, Summer Hats and Summer Sun
As the weather warms up throughout the summer term, more and more parents will be
dusting off last year’s summer uniform … or if the children have been growing too much,
buying new clothes. If this is the case, remember that summer uniform can often be worn well into the
first autumn half term, so …buy big!
When it starts to warm up and it is time to break out the sunscreen, may I remind you of one or two
points:
o
Even in very hot weather, shoes worn at school should have closed toes and must be
substantial enough to be able to kick a football, cartwheel around the field and be trodden on
in a line. Shoes or sandals should always be worn with white or grey socks.
o
Please remember that sun hats should be white, red or green and free of brand names, logos
and messages. Whilst there are many types of sun hat on the market, they all have
advantages and disadvantages.
Fisherman type hats
have a brim but it is
quite small and doesn’t
cast much shade.
Baseball caps are
cheap and easily
available but leave the
neck exposed.
Legionnaire caps cast
shade on the face and
neck but can leave the
neck hot and sweaty.
Bush style hats have a
wider brim leaving the
neck and face in the
shade but can be more
expensive.
Straw hats are cool on
the head and cast
good shade over the
face and neck but
they are easily
damaged and tempting
to pull off someone
else’s head.
Although not strictly
school colours, plain or
green banded straw
hats are acceptable.
Year 3 and Year 4 – Cross Country Running Competition
Good luck to the ten children competing in the cross country race at Lea Valley Athletics Centre
tomorrow. Let’s hope they can build on the success of Year 5 and Year 6 last year, when the boys won
the shield and we came second in the team event! Thank you very much to the parents helping us with
lifts to the event.
Ultrasport Clubs – Start Dates for this Term (NOT NEXT WEEK!)
o
Wednesday Ultrasport Clubs will be starting on 3rd May
o
Friday Ultrasport Clubs will be starting on 5th May
o
Monday Ultrasport Clubs will be starting on 8th May (because of the Bank Holiday on 1st May)
Maintenance Funds
I know that there is already a reminder on your ParentPay account, but here
is an additional mention. We are at the point in the year when we need to pay
our dues into the LDBS Maintenance Fund. Unfortunately, we are still over
£2000 short. If you have not yet made your contribution of £35 per child,
please do so as soon as possible. If you cannot pay the full amount, please
make any payment you can.
The Maintenance Fund is held by the LDBS so that, when roofs
need mending, walls fall down, toilets need updating or extra
classrooms need building, then the money is there. The LDBS
paid a considerable sum towards our new buildings a few years
ago and the EYFS building roof was mended last year as part of
this fund and we have plans for further improvements. If
previous parents had not paid into the Maintenance Fund, then
our children would not have such great facilities now.

Summer Fayre Advertising Boards
Equity Estate Agents have kindly agreed to sponsor our Summer Fayre again and are going to pay £15
each for up to 50 advertising boards, and £20 each for any over 50. If we get the same number of
volunteers as the Christmas Fayre, this could raise £1,750 for the school before the fayre has even
started!
All you need to do is complete the tear off slip below and a board will be put up outside your property
for a maximum of four weeks. If you live in a flat or a house, you can put your name down for a board.
You can even nominate friends and family as long as you have their permission. Please help us by
completing the tear off slip below and return it to the school office in an envelope labelled “Summer
Fayre Boards.”
Alternatively – you can just email your address details to [email protected] or if you gave us
your details for the Christmas Fayre, just let a member of the PTA or your PTA class rep know that you
are happy to have another board.

Cycle Enfield Community Bike Markets
What is it? A bike market is a great way
to recycle unwanted bicycles, earn some
money and in the process create
affordable bike stock for others in your
community. If you have any unused bikes,
please bring them along. Every bike is
checked over by a mechanic before being
sold. Community Bike Markets like these
are open to both adults and children so if
you are looking for a bike for your child or
yourself, this is a great way to choose a
suitable bicycle.
When:
Where:
Saturday 29th April – Monday 1st May
A105 (Ridge Ave / Village Road) junction with Bush Hill Road / Church Street
Pop along to Bush Hill Park Gardens from 29th April- 1st May and pick up a reasonably priced second
hand bike at one (of many more to come) bike markets! You can also drop off your old unwanted bikes
too and earn some money and find them a new home! For more information, look on the cycleenfield
