Thank You Besides helping children, pecans offer many health benefits. For example, pecans are now known as the number one “Antioxinut” because of a study by Loma Linda University that shows pecans as the nut containing the highest levels of antioxidants. Pecans also play a role in lowering cholesterol. And, the USDA approved the following statement: “Scientific evidence suggests, but does not prove, that eating 1.5 ounces per day of most nuts, such as pecans, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease.” So, this is a win-win-win: help children, encourage reading, improve your health! The pecans we sell are from the new crop of Schermer’s Pecans in Georgia. UMW Members The family of Paul Prince wishes to thank everyone for all the prayers, cards and sympathy in the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Did you know you can encourage reading by children at Bonita Springs Elementary school by making and eating a pecan pie or cookies or cake? You can, if you purchase the 16 ounce bags of pecan halves sold by the United Methodist Women for $12 a bag. All proceeds from the annual sale, which began in early November, will go toward the purchase of supplemental reading materials at Bonita Springs Elementary. Some of us may remember that reading material as “Weekly Readers”. UMW members will be outside the sanctuary after worship services from November on until all are sold.
