A Celebration of Life!
A SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS PROJECT
A PROJECT WITH ROOTS
• that focuses on universal human values
It was a Secondary 4 student at École
secondaire de Rivière-du-Loup who sowed
the first tiny seed. The year was 2006 and the
project was then known as CHÊNE DE VIE
(Oak Tree of Life). Over time, thanks to
the passion and unwavering determination
of Ms. Lucie Dumont, supported by a
prodigious team, the oak seedling grew
and flourished. The Commission scolaire
Kamouraska−Rivière‐du‐Loup and
Transplant Québec joined the authors to
form a solid partnership and the project
took off. It became CHAIN OF LIFE and…
the rest is history!
like:

about organ and tissue donation;

decision about organ donation and to make that
decision known to their loved ones;
• that brings students to realise the priceless value
of their organs and the importance of keeping
them healthy.
personal and civic responsibility through
concrete actions that demonstrate a
commitment to the life of their community.
TALKING IS CRUCIAL…
Although the vast majority
of Quebecers say they are
in favour of organ donation, only one in
two has signed their medical insurance
card. This makes the decision difficult for
the families of potential donors that are
reluctant to authorise the donation
because they did not have time to bring
this topic up with their loved one. When
we know that a single donation can
save 8 lives and help 15 other people
regain their health, we understand all
the importance of discussing the subject
as a family.
CHAIN OF LIFE has also received the
support of several organisations and
donors, including:
• Desjardins (main financial partner);
• the government of Quebec;
• the Fondation Léonne‐Ouellette;
• the Kidney Foundation of Canada
(Quebec Branch);
• the Fédération des commissions scolaires
du Québec;
• the Fédération des comités de parents du
Québec.
