Homeowners Association 2014 MEETINGS APRIL 14, 2014 JULY 7, 2014 SEPTEMBER 8, 2014 DECEMBER - TBD ANNUAL MEETING & ELECTION OF OFFICERS TUESDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2014 7:00 PM NEW LIFE CHRISTIAN CHURCH The Gate House Neighbors Being Neighborly! Volume 10, Issue 1 March 2014 A Deed Restricted Community Hey Beautiful ! Our Beautification Committee helps ensure our common areas stay neat and tidy throughout the year. They also decorate our entrance during the holidays. Here’s an update on some of our recent and upcoming projects: Four of the pine trees that border Brownsboro Road sustained extensive damage from the ice and snow last month. The trees have all been trimmed and the work has been completed. Fortunately, we did not experience damage from the most recent ice and snow storm. Hopefully, that will be the last big snow of the season! The flowers and mulching should be completed at the entrance just before the Derby which will add color and enhance the work that was completed last year. The lighting problem at the entrance has been corrected and the new, more efficient lights use less current while providing the same wattage on the walls, keeping the fixtures much cooler. In addition, last year the Beautification Committee painted the “Wyndham Place” letters on the stone wall and plans to add a second coat of paint this spring. Please take a moment to thank our wonderful volunteers for their continued hard work! If you are interested in volunteering for the Beautification Committee, please contact Charles Brunner at 502.425.3778! EASTER EGG HUNT - APRIL 13TH! SPRING CLEANING! Did You Know? The WPHOA board would like to organize two planned yard sales this coming year - one for the Spring and one for the Fall. The Kentucky Derby is the oldest continuously held horse race in the country. We are looking for a volunteer to coordinate this with homeowners who wish to participate. Please contact a board member if you are interested! HOW TO BOIL THE PERFECT EGG 1. Place the eggs in a pot, cover with water and bring to full boil 2. Turn off the heat, cover the pot and let stand for 10 minutes 3. Carefully drain, then crack eggs by shaking the pot and running them under cold water until cool enough to handle 4. Peel the eggs and enjoy! Flamingos, Wine & Cheese Throughout the year, several generous hosts open their homes and yards to the neighborhood for a little ‘party time.’ Our Wine & Cheese and Flamingo parties are a great way to meet and mingle with your neighbors and friends, enjoy (hopefully) lovely weather, let the kiddos play and maybe even take a dip in a pool, sing karaoke or play a few hands of cards! Last year we had great turnouts for our two Wine & Cheese and three Flamingo Parties. Let’s start thinking about dates for 2014! You choose the date, time and style you prefer. If you are interested in hosting a party, please contact Pat O’Bryant at 502.394.9160. So what’s a.... Flamingo Party? A Flamingo is usually held outdoors. You’ll know where to find the party by the pink flamingos in the hosts’ yard at the beginning of the week. Everyone brings a dish to share and their favorite drinks. Children of all ages are welcome! Versus a... Wine & Cheese Party? This party can be either inside or outside depending on the weather and the preference of the host. Bring your own drink of choice and an appetizer to share. This is an adult only night — 21 and up! Spring is the time of plans & projects. ~ Leo Tolstoy Neighborhood Watch & Safety Tips 10 LESSONS WE CAN LEARN FROM OUR DOGS We have unfortunately had a handful of vehicle break-ins over the past few months. In most cases the vehicles were unlocked in driveways or in open garages. Just a reminder for all of us to be aware of our surroundings, report any suspicious activities or incidents, both to the Police Department, and to a member of the board, so we can notify the neighborhood.
