Pupils are extremely polite and considerate

Dear Parents,
Autumn 2014 (3)
Parking
Our School Crossing Patrol Manager has brought to our attention concerns over parking again. I am sure
most of you are aware that parking across from the school causes a danger to our pupils including your
own children. This blocks off the view of the road as the children are crossed meaning they may not be
seen by passing cars or that the School Crossing Patrol may not see cars coming and step out. Though
many people drive along Station Road safely some do not and speed past the school. It has been pointed
out that our School Crossing Patrol parks her car near to the crossing point. This should happen at
lunchtimes when it is raining (as permitted by her working conditions) but must be in a position that does
not affect the view of the road. We understand that there have been issues with the Village Green car
park being full on some days and that this causes parking problems that affect everyone but we would ask
that the first priority is the safety of the children.
By choosing to park opposite the school drivers are making a choice to endanger others to save a bit of
time. We request that parents consider where they park for the benefit of the families that use the School
Crossing Patrol.
Admission to Reception (Foundation 2) in September 2015
The opening day for applying for a place in our Foundation 2 class (Reception as it used to be called) opens
on the 10th November via Derbyshire’s website www.derbyshire.gov.uk . Over the last few years we have
had two year groups that have met or nearly been at the maximum number of pupils we are allowed to
take. This year early indications from our Nursery numbers are that we will be close once again and the
school is planning for this.
Nursery Places
Can we please remind parents to put their child’s name down for Nursery ASAP please. It is much more
likely that we can meet the recent high demand for places if we have children’s names as early as possible.
Match Attax/Football Cards
There are regular ‘fads’ that our children enjoy over the year, from Loom Bands to Toys. As a school we try
and allow these fads for as long as possible as they are often of a positive benefit to the children. The
current fad of Match Attax cards is a great way for children to learn to read as they compare and swap
cards. However, over the last week the children have begun to fall out over ‘swaps’, whose cards are
whose and even getting them out in class at the wrong time. Due to this we are asking parents not to
allow their children to bring them in to school any more.
Midday Supervisors
The school has advertised on the Derbyshire website for two positions as Midday Supervisors in school.
These posts will be re-advertised over the next few weeks. One will be a permanent position and the other,
initially, will be temporary until March 31st 2015. . If interested please have a look on
http://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/ - click on ‘apply for a job’ and then select ‘Education Non-Teaching’.
Christmas Cards

All the classes in school this year are taking part in the ‘School Card Shop’ Christmas card fundraising. This
is the first time we have taken part and all the classes cards should now be out for parents to see. Any
funds that we raise (around 20% of the purchase price) from this will go towards the school to support
class work.
Photographs
We have been considering what to do about School Photographs over the past year. The individual
photographs are as popular as ever and the quality of this years has been very high again. However, the
sale of Class Photographs has dropped dramatically over recent years and we are considering either
stopping them completely or just providing them for Nursery/Reception and Y6. We will take this for
consideration by Governors in November. If you have a strong view on this could you inform your child’s
class teacher, governors or Mr Snape.
Upcoming Dates
The Key Stage 2 Christmas Concert will take place on the afternoon and evening of Wednesday, 10 th
December in the Sports Hall. The Foundation and Key Stage1 Nativities will take place at St Mary’s Church
on the 16th and 17th December.
