MEETING MINUTES
Present: Vice President Membership Missy Sorg, Treasurer Natalie Linstruth, Secretary Amie Wells, Brittany Foster,
Jami McQuerry, Tina Walter, Crystal Brown, Nancy Jackson, Mary Ball, Lisa Proffitt, Principal Sandy Schnatz, Jackie
Schlotterbeck , Jared Powers, Tiffany Strah, Amanda Ward, Alexis Bullock, Kimi Rolfsen, Mark Rolfsen, Melanie Offner,
Laura Puitz, Kelli Johnson, Angie Hayes, and Beth King

Call to Order: Ms. Linstruth called the Meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the library of R.C. Hinsdale Elementary
School on March 7, 2017. Ms. Linstruth, welcomed those in attendance and stated that she and Ms. Sorg
would be running the PTA Meeting because PTA President Tiffany Wolff was unable to attend the Meeting. Ms.
Linstruth asked everyone to review the Minutes and Treasurers Report.

Mrs. Schnatz Showcase: PBIS (Positive Behavior Instructional System) Mrs. Schnatz stated that Hinsdale
participates in the Pink Ticket Program. Students earn pink tickets as a class, yellow tickets from their teachers,
and white tickets on the school bus based on their behavior. The Kenton County School District has a Teacher
Education Academy which is housed at Scott High School. As part of a project, students in this program came to
Hinsdale and filmed Ms. Smith's first grade class showing the different expectations for students in the hallways,
cafeteria, restroom etc. The film will be edited for Hinsdale's use free of charge. Mrs. Schnatz asked if there
were any questions, and invited anyone interested to attend the committee meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of
each month at 4:00 p.m.

How do I stay informed/Next Meeting: Ms. Linstruth stated that this would be the last month that PTA
Meeting Minutes will be copied and handed out at the meeting in an effort to save paper. The meeting minutes
will be posted on the R.C. Hinsdale website for review. The next PTA Meeting will be Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at
7:00 p.m. Ms. Linstruth reviewed ways to stay informed, they are as follows:






Treasurer's Report: Treasurer, Natalie Linstruth reported that the Someone Special Dance brought in $3,110.00
and the Mother/Son event brought in approximately $1,900.00. It was the second year for both events and
they were very successful. Special events are finished for the year and the Lazer Craze event was not a money
maker this year. Ms. Linstruth called for questions regarding the Treasurer's Report.
Upon motion of Jared Powers, second by Alexis Bullock that the Treasurer's Report be approved as presented.
Motion carried unanimously.
5.
Approval of the Minutes: Upon motion of Melanie Offner, second by Mark Rolfsen that the February 7, 2017,
R.C. Hinsdale PTA Meeting Minutes be approved. Motion carried unanimously.
6.
Old Business:
Playground Hometown Huddle Update: Ms. Sorg reported that plans for the playground were coming along.
Ms. Wolff has been in contact with Mr. and Mrs. Peko and the Bengal's Hometown Huddle will match the
fundraising dollars ($20,000) earmarked for new playground equipment dollar for dollar. The large structure in
the back playground will be replaced, and will be completed this school year. R.C. Hinsdale has received
wonderful support from the Peko family. Ms. Sorg called for questions. Ms. Hayes stated that she has 10 trees
(oaks and maples) that she would like to donate to the project. Ms. Linstruth is excited for the new playground
and knows it was one of Ms. Wolff's goals when she became PTA President, and Amanda Ward has worked hard
for the improvements and the hard work is paying off.
7.
New Business:
Officer Openings for 2017-2018 School Year:

PTA President Ms. Wolff needs to step down as PTA President in the next school year
but would offer assistance to the new President.
-Vice-President, Membership Missy Sorg will be stepping down from this position in the next school
year.
- Chair openings
Special Events - Ms. Linstruth will be stepping down from this position in the
next school year. Special events takes care of skate nights, and school dances.
o Holiday Shop - Thank you to Mary Ball for agreeing to chair the Holiday Shop
next year. She is in need of a co-chair.
o Room/Pod Mom Coordinator - Angie Hayes has agreed to take this position.
Ms. Linstruth said that a letter will be going out soon showing what positions are filled and what positions need
to be filled. Now is the time to begin filling and planning for positions in the next school year.
SBDM Elections:
The election takes place in April/May and Ms. King will chair. Mrs. Schnatz explained
that this committee meets each month regarding student achievement. The Committee
is made up of staff, teachers, and parents. The members go through training and there
is a time commitment of about one hour per month, and the term is for two years.
Pokemon Trading Card Event: Angie Hayes has volunteered to lead a Pokemon Trading Card Club after school,
and Ms. McQuerry will assist. Ms. Hayes stated that the club would be for
about an hour after school with a snack and playing the Pokemon Card game.
Ms. Hayes and Ms. McQuerry will meet to discuss the club.
Talent Show:

Last month the idea of a school wide Talent Show was brought to the PTA. Ms. Linstruth
asked if someone would like to chair the event. Please let Ms. Wolff know and a
committee could be formed.
Committee/Event Updates:

Fundraising - Deanna Barkie/Amanda Ward


Ms. Ward reported that she and Deanna Barkie were not able to meet but are exploring other
items to sell rather than cookie dough for the next fundraiser. Ideas mentioned were World's
Finest Chocolate, Tupperware, gift wrap, pies. They are also looking at changing the rewards for
sales. Mrs. Schnatz stated that the children love the limo lunch. The committee is open to ideas
and suggestions.
Drama - Ms. King gave an update on the progress of the 4th/5th grade play Mulan Jr. The props and
sets are moving along. Sophie Williams won the t-shirt contest out of 25 4th and 5th grade
entries. An order form will be coming home for the t-shirt. Performances at school will be April
21st at 9:30 and 1:30, and April 26-27 at Scott High School at 7:00 p.m. Ms. King stated that
when the Drama Club began it put on a play for around $600 and last year they made a little
under $3,000. This year is the first time they have been able to purchase a book for each child in
the cast and it has just grown and gets better each year.

Art Fair - The Art Fair will be held on March 22, 2017, and frames are being purchased.
Spiritwear - Currently spiritwear has a lot of inventory to sell so there will not be a new spring order.

Redemptions - Amie Wells
 Ms. Wells reported that 6,662 box tops and bonus box tops were collected. The box tops were
mailed on February 28th and Hindale should receive a check for about $666.20. Mrs. Kiefer's
class collected a total of 885 box tops and will receive a pizza party. The K-2 Winner was Abel
Melton in Ms. Talbert's class, and the 3-5 Winner was Eva Meiners in Ms. Watkin's class. Each
child will receive a $5.00 gift certificate to Joseph Beth Booksellers. Congratulations to all of the
winners and thanks to everyone for participating and those who helped count. Ms. Linstruth
stated that Amazon Smile collected $55.52. Ms. Wells stated that she would get an email blast
reminder out and send a copy to Ms. Bullock for our Facebook page.
Morning with Mom - Lisa Proffitt
 Ms. Proffitt reported that everything is ready to go for the Morning with Mom event and she
just wants to make the Mom's happy. She is in need of about three more volunteers. An
officer with the Edgewood Police Department will be present to help with traffic control.
Staff Appreciation - Alexis Bullock
Ms. Bullock reported that staff appreciation week will be held the week after Spring Break, and
the theme is the Oscars/Hollywood. She will be sending a sign up genius soon for help with
lunches, set up, and tear down. There will be new teacher awards this year and she could use
some crafty/art volunteers. She asked Mrs. Schnatz if a group could get in the school on April
17th to set up the decorations. The decorations can also be reused for the play.
-Spring Carnival - Jackie Schlotterbeck
Ms. Schlotterbeck reported that Adrian Longfellow will do face painting at the Spring Carnival
this year but needs help. Ms. Schlotterbeck added that need to sign up genius hoping that art
students from Dixie and Scott who need volunteer hours can provide assistance. She also needs
someone to monitor the face painting line. There will be a charge this year for face painting.
Ms. Schlotterbeck announced that she has the class basket themes ready for the teachers. The
Grand Raffle was discussed. There will be a Disney basket and lego table. Information regarding
the class baskets will go out by mid March. Snappy Tent went out of business so the table rental
company will be more expensive this year. Ms. Schlotterbeck will add folding tables to sign up
genius.

The Rolfsens reported that someone has volunteered to shadow Chris Michels while making the
silhouettes so that this tradition can continue. A sign up genius will be sent to get volunteers to
help with set up on the day of graduation. Invitations will be sent in April, and the Graduation
will be held on May 17, 2017.
Wireless Microphones: Ms. King stated that the sound system in the gymnasium was recently fixed and asked if
a set of wireless microphones could be purchased to be used at assemblies. Ms. Linstruth asked that the item
be added to Mrs. Schnatz's wish list.
