Hi, my name is Upasana Srivastava. I was born and brought up in India. I completed my education in India, obtained B.Sc., B.Ed., M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Cytogenetics. I moved to Sydney in 2003 with my husband, and taught in the NSW schools and University of Sydney until 2005. I took a break due to my commitments as a mother of two kids. I came to Pooraka Kindy first as a parent, when my son started Kindy and then as a teacher, when my daughter came to kindy. Since 2011, I have been teaching here and enjoying working with little kids. Simultaneously, I also teach Biology at the University of South Australia, and get an entirely different experience. I know multiple languages (English, Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi). I love my job as a teacher. Hi, my name is Tina, I moved to Australia almost 6 years ago. I have three wonderful boys and an awesome grandson. I have worked as an educator for many years and this is my 2nd year at Pooraka Kindy. My main field is special education as I have a son with Asperger’s. It’s something I am interested in learning more about. I am married to Steve who is a police officer. My hobbies are card making and baking cakes, my friends call me the “cake diva”. Hi, my name is Jodie Davidson. I am 41 and married with 2 children, Chloe is 15 and Joel is 10. I have been working at Pooraka kindy for 6 years. I have met many families during this time and have taught many siblings from the same family which has been great. I also work at a couple of other kindergartens when I’m not at Pooraka. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and I love travelling. I will be taking my first ever overseas trip later this year. I love eating chocolate and my favourite food is Fruchocs. Yum Yum. Hi, my name is Kerryanne and I will be working every Monday with the staff and children. I am married with 3 children, 2 sons and a daughter. I have been in my ecw/support role for 11 years and enjoy working with the children to help them develop their skills and see their achievements. I also work at 2 other kindergartens. I’m looking forward to meeting all the children and their families in the next few weeks. Hello, I’m Allyson. I’m the boss! I love teaching and being with the children and try to avoid the office as much as I can (with little success). I’ve got two high school girls and a helpful husband who I have taught to cook! At the end of this year I will have been at Pooraka Kindy for 11 years but I’m still learning. Hi, I’m Teresa and I have been working at Pooraka kindy for 8 years and still loving it. I am the friendly lunch care lady and a veteran at volunteering. My girls are at Roma Mitchell and Pooraka Schools, they both attended this kindy – starting in playgroup at 3 years. I absolutely love working here and enjoying helping the kids with their learning. Come and chat with me, I’ll always greet you with a smile. Hi I’m Naomi, I am recently married. Last year I worked at Pooraka School and so it is great to be able to stay in touch with families whose children use the kindy and the school. I also live in Pooraka so I’ll probably see many of you at the shops! Hi, I’m Ly, I’ve been working at Pooraka Kindy as a bi‐lingual assistant for approximately 15 years, helping the children play and learn with Vietnamese and English language. I’m also able to talk with parents who use Vietnamese language and help them learn more about kindy. I am able to communicate the news in the newsletters for families who do not read English. I also work at Woodville Gardens Kindergarten.
