DIRECTV Residential Experience (DRE) Plus is returning the TV to its rightful
place—the focal point for in-room entertainment.
DRE Plus continues to transform the in-room
entertainment experience at hotels across the country
by now giving guests access to DIRECTV CINEMA, the
premium entertainment library that guests already
enjoy at home. Guests can now get access to the latest
programming they want to watch, when they want to watch
it, and on the best screen available—the hotel room HDTV.
For hotels, DIRECTV CINEMA takes the pressure off their
Wi-Fi networks as guests spend less time steaming video to
their portable devices.
DIRECTV CINEMA is available for new and existing DRE
Plus properties providing the highest viewing experience for
guests without taxing the hotel infrastructure*.
DIRECTV CINEMA improves overall guest experience by
using an on-premise video caching server that:
n Reduces long-term broadband costs
n Minimizes Internet bandwidth consumed from video
streaming
n Makes more bandwidth available for guests’ non-video
streaming applications.
*Properties with a DRE Plus system will require a dedicated Internet connection and Property Management System (PMS) integration

Is DIRECTV CINEMA available for new and existing properties?
n DIRECTV CINEMA is now available for both new and existing DRE Plus properties.
What is required to enable DIRECTV CINEMA?
n In addition to the existing equipment for DRE Plus, CINEMA requires a dedicated VPN connection, integration with the
PMS, the video caching server and USB drives for the H25.
Do I need to have HR24 HD-DVR receivers in order to install CINEMA?
n DIRECTV CINEMA supports both the HR24 and H25 with only the H25 needing a specified USB drive for DVR capability.
What support documents are available for DIRECTV CINEMA?
n DRE User Manual now incorporates information on CINEMA. In addition, a System Setup and Configuration document is
available on DREsupport.com.
What is the cost of DIRECTV CINEMA?
n DIRECTV provides the required H25 USB drive for FREE. The cost of the video caching server is approximately $10k
depending on the number of rooms.
Who do I call for technical support after install?
n SkyWeb and [email protected] will continue to be the primary point of contact for all DRE Support issues.
In addition to SkyWeb, DIRECTV has partnered with Cisco to provide real-time proactive monitoring of the DIRECTV
CINEMA video caching server and will directly inform the dealer of any issues
How will Disputes be handled?
n We have refined the order process, and will honor 100% credits for technical issues and other disputes. All credit
request will be handled by DIRECTV CARE at 888-388-2505.
What is the cost per movie?
n DIRECTV CINEMA HD titles mirror residential price-points starting at $ 5.99
Is there Revenue Sharing?
n Not direct to property. Our programming agreements are structured in a way that does not allow rev share to the
property. Maintaining the residential price points reduces the attractiveness of a revenue sharing model. In addition, our
goal is to increase the customer experience via content options while reducing hotel bandwidth needs.
Will the service impact the hotel’s wireless or broadband network?
n Impact is minimal. The service leverages an on-property caching server using the coax network eliminating video over
Wi-Fi traffic. In addition, since each movie is served locally only a 3Mbps broadband connection is needed to refresh the
moves on the server. In comparison, Netflix taxes the Wi-Fi and broadband network for EACH request even if the same
movie is requested.
Is PMS and a dedicated VPN required to access DIRECTV CINEMA?
nYes
What PMS system are currently compatible with the system?
n Hilton OnQ, Starwood Glaxy, and Micros are currently available. Coming soon: Comtrol, Northwind’s Maestro, InQuest’s
Room Master, MSI’s Night Vision, and PAR Springer-Miller
Can guests set programs to record or pause live TV?
n Yes, these capabilities are available on our DVR enabled receiver, HR24, but are now also available on our HD receivers,
H25, with the inclusion of a specified USB drive that accompanies DIRECTV CINEMA.

DVR Functionality is available in every room, but how do you erase the recorded content after each guest?
n It is interfaced with the PMS and wiped upon checkout. New incoming guests will not be able to view the previous guests
CINEMA purchases or TV recordings.
It costs me $10k and I don’t make any money?
n ROI will be generated via reduction of network streaming / increase in guest satisfaction
A USB drive is required for full DVR functionality. What is the cost of the USB drive?
n There is no cost for the USB drive
Regarding the USB, is it paired to the Set top Box (STB)?
n No. The USB is not paired to the STB. If the STB needs to be replaced the USB can be reused.
How many hours of storage is available on the USB drive for H25s?
n The USB drive will store roughly 6-8 hours of content.
If a guest steals the USB device can they watch the recordings at home?
n No. All content is encrypted and only a DIRECTV CINEMA® authorized H25 receiver can decrypt the content. In addition,
a tamper proof security stick is used deterring theft.
Can a guest use his or her own USB?
n No. The STB will only recognize our specific model of USB drive.
How do guests access DIRECTV CINEMA?
n There are multiple ways that a guest can access the CINEMA titles. Foremost, a selectable icon will be presented on
the Guest Welcome Screen or Guest Welcome Screen PRO that will take the guest directly to the CINEMA landing page.
The CINEMA page can also be accessed from the programming guide at channel 1100.
How many titles will be available on DIRECTV CINEMA?
n The video caching server will store 250 titles and will be refreshed monthly.
Are you able to disable access to CINEMA titles for individual rooms?
n Yes, from the Management Control System (MCS) the property has the ability prevent purchases of CINEMA movies.
Is a Free Preview offered?
n Each movie provides a free preview at which time the guest is prompted if they would like to purchase the movie.
Are Adult movies available?
n No, adult content is not available, which will significantly decrease the number of purchase disputes.
Is Financing available?
n Yes. Financing is available through Ascentium.
Do you offer a warranty service for the Server?
n We offer optional 3 & 5 year server warranty
