Exploitation
●
Teacher asks class, working in groups, to jot down in TL any words associated with danger in the context of road
and rail user safety.
●
Groups report back, and teacher fills in suggestions on a blank spidergram on OHP/Smartboard/Whiteboard etc.
●
Teacher then distributes to each pupil a copy of the spidergram. (See following worksheets)
●
Pupils add any of the class ideas that were agreed upon.
●
Using the spidergram, the teacher elicits full sentence/single word (differentiation) responses to questions about
conditions/behaviour that are considered to be dangerous.
●
Using picture, (see following worksheets),groups discuss the dangers shown in TL.
●
Homework activity: pupils write a description of the dangers in their own locality. (To present orally next lesson or
as written work for marking.)
●
Teacher revises use of simple imperatives with class.
●
Working in groups/pairs, pupils produce a leaflet/poster/presentation warning younger children of the dangers in
their own locality. (Use of Power Point could be encouraged/required for presentations.)
●
Pupils compose a letter/e-mail to their link school abroad asking them for data/statistics relating to road
accidents in their area.
●
Pupils contact local council/newspaper for similar data about their own town.
●
With the data from the 2 sources, pupils write a comparative study, which they present to the link school.
(An English version might appear in a school/local area newspaper.)
