What is a SAMs workshop?
The IL AFP SAMs workshop is a small (15-35 ppl) working study group that works together to complete
the knowledge portion of the SAMs. Led by physician facilitators the group works through all 60
questions together. Physician facilitators will offer insight, education, and references on all questions to
help achieve the correct answer
Attendees do not need to prep for this workshop or bring a laptop. All answers will be recorded by staff
throughout the workshop and will be submitted to the ABFM directly. Copies of the ABFM questions
with possible answers are handed out onsite and emailed to attendees prior to the workshop.
After the workshop, attendees will complete the second portion of the module, the Clinical Simulation,
on their own.
Upon successful completion of this module participates will receive MC-FP credit with the ABFM only if
all of the following are true:
•
You are currently eligible for and enrolled in the ABFM MC-FP process
•
You have not completed your current MC-FP stage**
•
You pay your MC-FP fees to the ABFM prior to completing the Clinical Simulation
•
You complete the Clinical Simulation
•
You attend and fully participate in the educational discussion for the entire session
Attendees will also earn 15 CME credits through the ABFM (not IL AFP) after completing the entire SAM
module.
Workshop fees cover only the workshop and does not apply to any ABFM MC-FP fee’s.
Family physicians participating in MC-FP may elect to complete additional SAM modules for CME credit
even after that have completed their current MC-FP Stage requirements. These modules will not be
applied to subsequent MC-FP Stages. Workshop fees stay the same if only taking it for CME Credit
proposes. Additional ABFM costs may or may not apply depending on what payment plan was chose by
the Diplomate.
