2015 Hometown Hero Youth
WRITING CONTEST
Grades K-12
Presented by
Today’s youth will be tomorrow’s heroes.
The 2015 Red Cross Hometown Hero Awards Breakfast, to be held on Friday, April 24th,
will honor our youth’s creativity with a contest featuring a coloring contest, essays, short stories,
and poetry. Four winning students (one per category) will have their work recognized at the event.
CRITERIA:




A student must be enrolled in Harrison, Carroll or Tuscarawas County, grades K-12.
All entries must be signed by a parent, guardian or teacher, confirming the work is original.
Mark all entries HERO WRITING CONTEST.
Deadline for entries is Friday, March 13th.
Grades 3-12
 Entries must be original essays, short stories or poetry.
 Entries must be no more than 500 words.
 Entries must be typed or handwritten (using blue or black ink).
Topics for the contest are as follows:
Grades K-2 Hero Coloring Contest (Coloring sheet available at the Red Cross or www.redcross.org/oh/canton)
Grades 3- 5 A movie hero I admire and why. . . (Written Entry)
Grades 6-8
What is the modern hero? (Written Entry)
Grades 9-12 A military hero I know, past or present (Written Entry)
