Week 2 spelling word
1. Consist: v. be made up of: The soup consist of potatoes and beans.
2. Consistent: adj. Reliable, regular: He is consistent when it comes to turning in his homework.
3. Consistence: noun. What something is made up of: The consistence of the cake was spongelike.
4. Consistency: noun. What something is made up of, mostly liquids: The consistency of the milk
shake made it hard to drink it with a straw.
5. Reside: v. to live: He will reside on the lake next to his brother’s house.
6. Resident: adj. Living somewhere for a long time: He is our resident doctor because he has been
here for forty years.
7. Residence: noun. Where someone lives: Their residence is up on a hill and it is surrounded by
really big trees.
8. Residency: noun. Actually living in a place: The population of the whole Washington residency
was around six million.
9. Comply: verb. To do what is asked: In order to get a good grade, students must comply with
the teacher’s wishes.
10. Compliant: adjective. Agreeable: He is compliant and will always do what you ask.
11. Compliance: noun. The act of doing what is asked: His compliance with the new recess rules
will make recess go so much smoother.
12. Compliancy: noun. Agreeable, usually plural: The 5th graders did not want the compliancy of the
6th graders because they knew the 6th graders would try to take over.
13. Emerge: verb. To come from: The submarine will emerge from the water any minute.
14. Emergent: adj. Recent. The two rocks crashed together and there was an emergent noise that
hurt his ears.

great soccer player impressed his coaches.
16. Emergency: noun. Something that happens suddenly or unexpectedly: The fire broke out in the
house and created an emergency that needed the fire department to help.
17. Excel: verb. To be good at something: He is really good at math and excels at solving hard
problems.
18. Excellent: adj. Extremely good. He scored all the runs, he is an excellent hitter.
19. Excellence: noun. Greatness: His all-around excellence in school means he has good grades.
20. Excellency: noun. Title given to royal officials: “His excellency, the royal King of Timon,” he said.
21. Persist: verb. To continue is a firm manner: He will persist in his goal to reach the North Pole,
even though he lost most of his supplies.
22. Persistent: adj. Continuing on a course of action regardless of difficulty: He is certainly
persistent at football, even though he keeps getting knocked to the ground.
23. Persistence: noun. Continuation of a course of action regardless of difficulty: If he shows
persistence, he will become much better at math.
24. Persistency: noun. Continuation of a course of action regardless of difficulty: With a
persistency that even the teacher found impressive, the student figured out how to divide
fractions.
