Wine List - Menu Gordon Jones

Wine List
It is not easy selecting the wines to put on this list from a wide range available. I therefore use the same appraoch to my food, I am looking for
wines that are interesting, wines that will offer a variety of flavours and compliment the food you are about to eat.
We have teamed up with Vintage Roots who are specialists in Organic and biodynamic wines. We have gone for organic wines as we believe
the producers are striving to maximise the expression of terroir or ‘sense of orgin’ and the idea being that there is nothing extra in the wine to
interfere with its purity.
Like our menu, this list changes on regular basis and my team will be happy to recommend a wine to go with your meal.
I hope you enjoy your dining experience.

The influence of the indigenous Xarel.lo makes this an altogether different wine-drinking

The Te Arai vineyard is five kilometres from the sea and this maritime proximity underlies the

Australia
McLaren Vale Shiraz/Viognier 2008/09, Battle of Bosworth
£39
This blend of Shiraz and Viognier is all about delivering a perfumed wine with real finesse.
Fermented together the Shiraz (93%) is tempered by the slightly floral qualities of the Viognier
but the wine still brims over with chocolate-laced black fruits, liquorice and spice. A powerful
wine.
309
Chile
£33
Carmenere Reserva, 2007 Nuevo Mundo
Top notch Chilean Carmenere, produced only in the very best years. Full bodied with spicy
tobacco and rich dark berry flavours.
307
France
Fleurie Cru Beaujolais ‘La Chapelle des Bois’, 2009 Domaine Chasselay
£35
Fleurie is one of the best-known and loved of the Beaujolais 'crus' and it's possibly because the
wines have a wonderful, floral quality with scents of violets definitely discernable in this black
cherry and raspberry driven wine.
310
N. Zealand
Crazy by Nature Cosmo Malbec/Syrah/Viognier, 2010 Millton Vineyards B
£33
Convivial, buoyantly fruity red that's like 'a bouncy redhead in a summer dress'! So says
winemaker, James Millton. It shows notes of dark chocolate and booze-soaked maraschino
cherries with a hint of cigar and spice. A great fun wine that offers something a bit different
from New Zealand.
311
France
Chateauneuf-du-Pape. 2005/06 Jacqueline Andre B
£44
This famous red wine is nearly always a blend and in this case it comes from 78% Grenache,
10% Syrah,10% Mourvèdre (+ 2% anyone's guess!). The vines average 65 years in age and in
some instances vines of over 100 years old continue to yield beautifully concentrated flavours.
Amazing wine smoky, with scents of rosemary and thyme. The tannins are well-integrated but
gripping and there's an unbelievable vivacity to such a powerful red. Beautiful.

France
£56

Fortified Malbec 2009, Domaine Jean Bousquet (18%, 50cl)
This sweet, 'port-like' Malbec is really quite special. It has intense aromas of black fruit,
roasted coffee, melted chocolate and spice; mere suggestions of the explosion of flavours that
follow on the palate.

Wonderful sweet wine, with praline, orange blossom and honey flavours which are at no point
overly intense, such is the talent of Richard Doughty who manages to keep the acidity in
perfect balance. Long length, this is a real treat. Enjoy with any number of fruit puddings or on
its own!
