Organic & Biodynamic wine explained….
As you may notice, we are incredibly proud of our range of organic wines. But why? We have
found that wines made from organically grown grapes gives us consistently beautiful wines,
whether it’s one of our entry-level easy-drinking Touchstone wines, or a special bottle of
Amarone – our specialist supplier deals only in organically grown wines to ensure consistent
quality & noticeable freshness in young wines, & superb enhanced characteristics of young-ish
vintages.
Organic vineyards tend to ‘buzzing with life’ above & below ground, with a richness of
biodiversity which aids vine health & ultimately the quality of the wine. Higher antioxidant levels,
& lower sulphur levels help to reduce allergic reactions & the ‘morning after’ feeling for many
people. Organically produced wines also have a lower carbon footprint than other wines.
Biodynamic wines also benefit from meticulous attention & rituals to benefit the health of the
vine. Mineral & plant extracts are buried in the soil at certain times of year, to be later dug up &
sprayed over the vines. Nettle, dandelion, chamomile & cow manure are all used for this at
different times of year.
It surprises many drinkers that most wine is not vegetarian. We stock a wide variety of vegetarian
& vegan wines. Most wines are produced using Isinglass (made from a sturgeon’s air bladder)
as a fining agent to clarify the wine, rendering it not strictly vegetarian. Vegetarian wines use an
egg white or milk product for this process, & vegan wines use an inert clay product.
**
For 2014 we have introduced a carefully selected small range of
non-organic vintage wines, Champagnes & premium spirits.
We are delighted to now offer this bijou collection of exceptional vintage & fine wines alongside
our organic collection, with vintages from distinguished producers from around the world,
chosen for their unsurpassable quality.
We have sourced some of the world’s rarest & most sought-after wines, giving the opportunity
to indulge in a rare & exceptional wine experience at Hammet House.
We are proud to offer wines from:
Paul Jaboulet, Chateau LaTour, Louis Roederer, Domaine Dagueneau,
Domaine Trimbach, Domaine LeFlaive….
